That's true. Sometime he said something about how frustrating Hollywood could be. They basically expect and demand you to do the same over an over (oh the formula) or else they're giving you a lot of problems because you might fail (at the BO) if you try something different.

I remember how many problems Burton got when he made Nightmare Before Christmas with that obsolete stop-motion technique or when he wanted to make Ed Wood black and white.

Hollywood is filled with examples like this; Al Pacino has been the same loud-voiced irascible character for decades now. Burton has succumbed too; the last thing I needed to see was an Alice in Wionderland by him. It's such a predictable choice with such predictable results.

Nail. On. The. ****ing. Head.

it kinda like how actors and directors don't wanna to be conform but when they do, they gain success but it kills their integrity.

Maybe it's just me, but I'm not complaining about this movie like some of these other chumps. Be grateful we're getting it and that it looks awesome.

If you don't think so, don't see it. Simple as that.

You won't hear any complaining from me GoblinWhirlwind! These pictures are amazing. They are so vivid and really make you feel like you are off in some other "wonderland". I can't wait for this movie. Burton is really going to bring this story to another level!

Yeah, we don't get enough predictable movies that look awesome anymore.

I might or I might not. In the meantime, I'm posting in the right thread.

But the complaints that a Tim Burton film *gasp* looks like a Tim Burton film is whining for the sake of whining. Alfred Hitchcock had his own unique style on each and every one of his films. Same with Martin Scorsese. Do people complain that Picasso only painted Picasso style paintings? Or Salvado Dali? You pay to see a Tim Burton film that has his own unique style and sensibilities. Otherwise, we get generic Shawn Levy directed Alice in Wonderland.

i think people are complaining because Burton is some ways has conformed. He just kept his visuals intact. He's no longer the artistic rebel who fought the system (Ed Wood being black and white, stop motion animation for 'Christmas').

I liked Sweeny Todd alot, but I even realize now that Burton has changed. I don't know if it's age or the weariness of the industry but it is what it is. It's not saying he's a bad director.

I think it was repetition without anything else what was critizised. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was that. Burton style yay, but nothing else. What to say about Planet of the Apes. But I am a Burton fan, I still like his Batman 89 more than Batman Begins; I liked Big Fish and thought that Sweeney Todd was very good. But I dare to say that Alice won't bring anything new but his visual style (which I like). And he needs to leave Johnny Depp alone for a while.

I have to say i'm really looking forward to thsi despite some of the horrendous CGI shown in the trailers. I always really like Tim Burton films, even if some of them may not be great, he always introduces some great unique idea/visual that is just worth the price of admission alone.. he really does a great job at continually bringing something new yet old and classic Burton at the same time... I always look forward to his films

You know I can't put my finger on that. Why did Burton opt to use so much CG especially when some of those characters don't need it?

Personally I think Burton is the perfect choice for this film.

What other director has that trippy, surreal style that is PERFECT for a film like this?

None. Unless you wanna throw the likes of Fincher or Lynch into the mix but they would probably go over board and it wouldn't be suitable for the young 'ens.

I'll try to express my opinion here, without running the risk of sounding like a rabid, ''hes the best eva director in the world, I love him soooooooo much'' Tim Burton fan...

It's a little unfair to condemn him for having a particular style. It seems so annoying and petty to say, ''ooh look theres a new Tim Burton film out, but F**K it cause it LOOKS like a Tim Burton film''

Alright... so he's made one bad movie (Planet of the Apes) where he was handcuffed by the constraints of the studios. Otherwise... he's been nothing but an independant mind working within a system of money mad dictators.

And hey perhaps Leonardo Di Caprio and Martin Scorcese should lay off one another... No one's forcing Depp to work in Tim's movies.

They are great friends, enjoy working together, and Depp always produces some of his most intriging and different work under Burton. No one character has been the same.

To top it off... Burton has already surprised me visually with this movie. It certainly doesn't look as dark as i thought he would have had it. Not to mention that if visuals where vital to getting me into a movie theatre, I wouldn't have looked at Half of Steven Speilberg's movies.

So lay of Burton's style untill you have at least seen Wonderland in motion.

I agree about Planet of the Apes. That was his only (in my opinion) truly bad film. Nothing can touch the 1968 classic and shouldn't. But Charlie and the Chocolate Factory actually brought a lot new. For one, it was actually faithful to the book. The 1971 Willy Wonka has the nostalgia thing going for it (and the wonderful Gene Wilder) but as a film is pretty bad and as an adaptation of Roald Dahl's novel even worse. Burton's film actually captured what was missing from the 1971 version and put the perfect version of the book to screen.

Personally, I think the same will be with Alice in Wonderland. The reason he is making this version is because there hasn't been a completely decent version of the story told on the big or small screen. They've all missed the spirit or the tone of the book. The jury is still out on this but so far it looks like he's in the right direction in bringing a true (or at least, truer) version of Lewis Carroll's story to the screen.

Alrighty, another new poster! :yay:

Oh sweet! Depp is playing Alice!

I mean...theres not a single other person on that poster who could be the main character, the star, the title character of Alice, other then Johnny Depp!

Nice poster, but I hope it's just one variation. The title character being totally absent from the final seems a little iffy. They're pulling a Chocolate Factory by having Depp overshadow the protagonist.

The teaser had the same problem. It doesn't bode well for the movie, but I hope it's just the marketing.

I'm sure Depp doesn't care either way, but in movies where he's the supporting cast, he should really just be low key.

He's off his nut, of course he does.

i'm a big burton fan and this is the front-runner for my most anticipated film of 2010.

if ever there was a story seemingly tailor made for tim burton's eccentric style, lewis carroll's alice in wonderland must be it. from what i have seen, it has been in a word, breathtaking. when it comes to visuals i don't think anyone tops burton. it looks exactly like i imagined it should. it perfectly captures carroll's bizarre dystopia. it has the perfect mix of live action and computer animation. i like they are going to use computer animation to slightly distort the facial features of the actors to make it more trippy.

i think it has the potential to be truly special, and i'm sure it will be rich with atmosphere.
