Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland

I still can't believe more and more people are jumping on the 'I hate Burton and Depp teamups' bandwagon. There really is no reason to get annoyed, which is why I used the term bandwagon since more and more people out of nowhere started to talk crap about their work together when it used to be only a small handfull.

I really can't see the reason why to get irritated or pissed that they like to work together and make good movies as well. If anything it's a bonus since you know there won't be any problems on set(like a good number of other films where the director and actor/s butt heads)and Depp is such a great character actor that even when some of his characters are a tad bit similar, he still does a great job of making them unique. Only character of his I didn't care for too much was Willy Wonka but that was mainly due to being such a big fan of Gene Wilder. Well, that and the Michael Jackson comparison kind of ruined it for me too.

A lot of you are forgetting that out of all the actors in this film, Depp in fact is the most popular, which means he's the biggest draw. It's a typical and normal studio method to help sell the film to the general audience by giving him top billing.

As dogwonder78 said, I have enjoyed all of the Burton films he has made with Johnny Depp and don't mind many more in the future so long as they're not sequels but something a bit new.

I just ignore all the whining... it's just another example of people acting like cattle, hating on something just because other people are doing it. They make a great team, I hope we get many more from the both of them.

I still like Burton but he is losing his unpredictability as a director though. I don't know if anyone, hater or lover, will deny that. I mean, out of the films that he has made this past decade, I only liked two: Big Fish and Sweeny Todd. Even then, they're good but I didn't think they were amazing.

He has a tone he likes, and he sticks with it. It wouldn't kill him to switch it up, but if somebody really wants other kinda movies, there's other directors.

Burton needs to switch it up. I mean, he's been doing so many adaptations and remakes that people get desensitized unfortunately and does give the man the credit that he deserves. I don't doubt he's a great visualist but I think on the creative scale, he has slowed down a lot. I don't know if it's because of the business or if it's because he's getting older, but it's hard not to see it.

pretty much, I think that would be the key to lay off the extreme haters of Burton. Honestly, I'm a Burton defender but yeah, if his next movie is..let's say a remake of Wizard of Oz or..something that is too obvious for his visual palate (oh how Burton of him) then I would toss my hands up in the air.

Sweeney Todd was a masterpiece, I'd argue his best film after Ed Wood (his most unique movie). Big Fish was really good, as well. But the rest of his films this decade: Planet of the Apes, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Corpse Bride are just....meh. I have hopes for Alice in Wonderland though.

I have no problem with him playing in his own style, he is great at it and have no criticisms other than sometimes it falls flat. Sometimes it doesn't. But I am not going to say Burton has to radically change his auteurship as he has made some of the most memorable films of the last 20+ years. He is a bit predictable, but I would never have told John Ford to quit making westerns or Alfred Hitchcock to quit making thrillers either.

I agree completely with that statement. I didn't care for Planet of the Apes and thought it was a waste of a film for him to make. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory didn't do anything for me and I prefer the Gene Wilder version by far. Corpse Bride both me and my gf agreed that we'll stick with Nightmare Before Christmas.

Symbiotic, thanks for posting that link. I really like that Cheshire Cat sweater but probably won't get it. I like it but don't think I would wear it hehehe.

I am going to buy the Cheshire Cat Glow Beanie for my gf though. She has one of those but a racoon one she got at WonderCon earlier this year, so she should love the Cat one.

Anyway I don't mind the teaming of Depp and Burton in almost every movie. However it would be nice if he went back to give Michael C. some work.

Big Fish was a great movie...I really liked it as well. Sweeney Todd was also impeccable, those are probably my 2 most favorite Burton films. I have really high expectations for Alice in Wonderland and being that it will be in 3D only adds to the film I think.

Oh Wednesday huh? I am marking it on my calendar..Ha-Ha! The last time they revealed stuff on the Facebook page I loved it. Those panel images were great and totally exceeded my expectations! Can't wait for this "surprise" next week.
