Amidst the excitement of certain A-list actors Robert Downey Jr.and Samuel L. Jackson possibly appearing in The Avengers movie together, its easy to forget that Academy Award-nominee Tim Roth is also hanging around the Marvel movie universe.
Roth, of course, played the villain Emil Blonsky in 2008s Incredible Hulk. Despite ultimately getting his Abominable behind whipped by the Green Goliath, the character could conceivably return to cause more trouble for Bruce Banner/Hulk. The question is, besides an Incredible sequel (which might happen, even if Incredible Hulk only grossed about $260 million worldwide), could we potentially see Blonsky appear in such films as the upcoming Avengers or Thor?
In a recent interview with MTV, Roth said hes signed on for two more films, but doesnt know where that deal will ultimately lead. However, he pointed out that Incredible Hulk definitely ties into Iron Man, and that those films and Marvels upcoming slate appear to be configuring certain characters for a larger purpose, in which hed definitely like to be involved.
"What theyre doing now is ... putting these characters together in different ways," Roth said. "With the Sam Jackson thing, and having [Robert Downey Jr.] come in at the end of 'Incredible Hulk' was the first clue to thatand I dont know if they want to bring [Blonsky] back, but I told them Im absolutely game for it. It would be so much fun to do it again. Im in it for three."
"I did [Incredible Hulk] purely for my kids, so my boys can laugh at their dad and have fun with it," he said. "Whats been really interesting [about recent superhero movies] is, they're taking these heavy-weight actors and turning them into these characters, and populating a very bizarre world. Theyre brilliant, but they also entertain the kids, and I think its a very smart move ... yet youre still running around like a kid in them."
It sure sounds like Roth has nothing but love for Marvel Comics-based films, but what do you think about bringing super-soldier Emil Blonsky/Abomination back in Thor or The Avengers? Or is one appearance enough for the English thesp?
