This week in the magazine, Nick Paumgarten writes about the lives of elevators, and tells the story of Nicholas White, who was trapped in an elevator in New York City’s McGraw-Hill building for forty-one hours. Here is a condensed look at White’s ordeal, as captured by the building’s security cameras.

if you were wondering whatever happened to the guy, you can read more from this link

Guy was pretty calm about it, I'd of probably knocked myself out and shat myself 10 hours into it.

I think he handled the situation well . If you read the article he even held off on smoking because he didnt want to violate any policy. I would of probably done something idiotic and got myself killed .

All I want to know:

did he do #2 in there?

Well, doesn't look like it does it.
As for him keeping himself from smoking because of company policy, what a dud.
Guy is probably as exciting as a tax return...
If a companies faulty ass elevator would put me through this, the only thing keeping me from smoking would be if there was a sprinkler system in there.

Wow.

This just gave me an incredible idea for a music video.

I probably would of set off the sprinkler system and drown myself while hoping for the fire department to find me.

I also would of pissed in the elevator when i was finally free.

lol, why they hell did it take them so long anyways.
That's nuts, imagine it was some claustrophobic person... Probably would of killed himself.

When he stepped into the elevator of McGraw Hill in New York City, he had no idea that he would spend the next
41 hours stuck alone. He did not know that when he entered that elevator he had stepped into the TWILIGHT ZONE.

Unless there are going to be mystical elevator gnomes, lamest Twilight Zone ever! :woot:

I'd go freaking nuts. I probably would've passed out.

Passing out would have been good in that situation.

Ha ha, they really ran out of ideas for that show at the end ;)

He starts to lose it a bit around hour 21. Jesus christ though...that's almost 2 days in a 6x6 box...I bet he never goes into an elevator without a cell phone again.

that video was pretty sad. glad he made it out ok.

I was kinda disappointed. I thought he was going to freak out and like start banging his head on the wall or something.

why the hell did it take 41 hours to get him out?!

no one noticed he was in there.

Where was the fire dept at least? WTF? There's no reason he should have been stuck there that long, I'd be seriously pissed.

The janitors cleaned the other 3 elevators. Why didn't they stop and go "Hey, I usually clean 4 elevators every night.. Something's not right here.."

And why did the lights go on and off in the other 3 elevators, but his stayed on the whole time..

And where were security people who watch these monitors... Like you think that'd be something you'd do before you left, look at the little TVs and make sure no one is having sex in the elevators.

And isn't that little button in an elevator for these types of situations, doesn't it like call the fire department or something?

This all seems very strange.

It was a psych test that my professor pulled on the guy. I think we should have kept him in there for longer though. see if in a SIMS captivity he would go insane. (come on, I know I'm not the only one who would box the sims in a very small unmovable room just to see them snap) same thing here.

in all seriousness though, good point and it may be a conspiracy.
