Right so I gotta ask a question 'cause I've been thinking and my head hurts now:

What kind of time period are the Astonishing X-Men, Uncanny X-Men and X-Men taking place over?

The reason I ask is 'cause there are roughly three teams, but in a lot of the most recent issues there are character overlaps. Emma, Scott, Hank and Logan seem to be almost floating characters at times.

At the moment Havok's team are battling Apocolypse, but yet Polaris is in Uncanny X-Men helping the Prof help the Shi'ar. Scott is with Kitty and Pietr in Astonishing X-Men, yet is also in New X-Men with Emma. What is going on?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Marvel's continuity is screwed up. There is no definitive answer. All books are Pre-Civil War, pre Nitro blowing stuff up. My best guess is that Uncanny X-men will be continuing during Civil War, and they'll just be in space. X-men is a bit trickier. It could be that the first issue took place before Torn but after House of M, or it could be that it took place before Civil War, on the same time-line as Uncanny. I'm not familiar with New X-men, but I have browsed a couple of issues, and couldn't help but read the solicits. My guess is that it takes place closer to House of M than Civil War. However, Marvel's time-line is all out of whack, and everything would've made a lot more sense if AXM came out on time, and I guess AXM would've come out on time had Joss known about House of M, but he didn't and I think that meant rewriting for him and redrawing for John but oh well...
Oh yeah, if you're big into Astonishing, stay away from Civil War, just wait on on the trade or grab the issues but don't read them, and definately don't read Civil War X-men, although it's good, but like I said, AXM is the slow one and Civil War takes place after Joss and John would've left, after Torn, after the arc after Torn. Although Frontline hasn't had any X-men spoilers yet, and it's really good, you know Paul Jenkins is a genius right?

don't forget about civil war:x-men and new x-men both are during civi war. uncanny team will be back and civil war will be over. x-men may be around the same time. it didn't happen yet but it's about to, or it did but doing their own thing. (i say this because at the end of x-men 188 there was a page about the school. i'll post it soon.) and i'd stop thinking about it because it's not possible to figure it out
