i think i'm quitting smoking. i decided on my break at work today that i was done with it. mostly, i'm tired of going outside in the cold to have a smoke. it's been about 6 hours since my last one, and already i'd kill for one.

anybody quit before and wanna share some helpful tips?

Just smoke Menthol for a couple of weeks... then youl never want to smoke again.

ha...one of my roomates tried that. she ended up just smoking those instead. i actually don't mind menthol. used to smoke 'em on the regular.

go see your doctor dude . . . mine perscribed me Welbutrin, and it doesn't COMPLETELY curb your cravings, but it helps quite a bit . . . you have to enforce willpower, dude . . . . look at graphic pictures every time you get the craving, or discuss with your peers why you want to quit

start doing other things instead of smoking . . . think of all the time you waste . . . I quit smoking by lifting weights, and hitting some hard cardio . . . I basically turned my bad habit into good ones . . .

the last part is, ALWAYS remember that you're susceptible to start again with little influence . . . this story has a sad ending because I quit for 6 months, but started up again about a month ago :(

I will be going back to my doctor to RE-quit, though, and this time I ain't goin back!!!!

oh yeah, and I smoked hella more weed when I quit LOL! :O

just keep on smoking until your dead...then you will have quit :D

Have something your mouth can fixate on, instead of a cig (example: chewing gum, tic tacs, etc). That helps some people, instead of paying extra bucks for nicotine gum.

yeah, i don't want the nicotine gum.

i have heard that tea tree oil toothpicks are pretty good.

I couldnt stand the smokers at my old work and how they would be able to get 15 minute smoke break.

it fn sucks donkeys nuts

There is only one way you will ever be able to quit. ONE. When you TRULY....REALLY....ABSOLUTELY......WANT to quit and are ready to put the necessary commitment and willpower behind doing so. Exercise can help. A better diet can help. Avoiding drinking can help. A prescription or the nicotine patches/gum/lozenges can help. Finding avoidance triggers and overcoming the habitual trappings can help. But until you're ready to give it up, deep down inside, you won't. You'll relapse. You'll sneak. You'll only do it now and again. You'll find ways to rationalize going back to it. So until you're ready to fully commit to it, don't even bother.

jag, two years smoke free

dude . . . I have failed you :csad: . . . but mostly I've failed myself, and I'm serious about that . . .

somebody metioned to use oral fixation things such as gum, which also helps . . . I also chewed on cinnamon sticks for a while, but mostly it's a test of willpower . . . I will update my quit smoking thread once I quit again . . . for serious

the only good news is that I'm still working out a lot, and maxing out on my bench press at around 260-265lbs :word:
