I love the Marvel movies and collect all of them but am I the only one that is tired of seeing him as cameos in every damn movie cause how come no others for Marvel get to be cameos? Stan was a writer in comics and Bill Finger created everything we love about Spider-Man from suit to names, etc. You don't see DC people doing that and once you hand everything over it should be the end. I think it was okay at first but the cameos should and need to stop, the movies are great enough without him being in a quick scene. Let's see more Easter eggs or cameos by other characters instead.

ewww

Stan gets a cameo as long as he wants one.

I hope they find a way to incorporate his face in every Marvel movie going forward even after he eventually passes.

The name of this thread near enough gave me a mini heart attack. Not cool, dude. :oldrazz:

To answer the question, heck no. His cameos are always great fun and literally take up no more than a couple of minutes screentime tops. Where's the harm in that? I dread the day we will no longer be lucky enough to have the obligatory Stan Lee cameo in Marvel flicks. :csad:

If so that recent documentary really missed something lol.

The title of this thread was either really thoughtless, or a troll move. I'm giving the OP the benefit of the doubt and going with the former, but this title is No More.

Heck i doubt most of his even racks up 10 seconds of screen time, let alone a full minute or more..

Stan and James Gunn filmed several cameos for upcoming movies when GOTG2 was shooting. Stan's legacy will continue for decades to come, regardless of whether he has cameos or not.

The original title of this thread was extremely cruel in light of Stan's current health problems. When I saw it I genuinely thought he had passed away, which may have been the intent. It's fine not to like Stan's cameos but there is no need to be vicious about it.

He has the most overt cameos, but not the only cameos. It's not like someone like Steve Ditko would want a cameo anyway.

Dude, his cameos normally amount to like 3 seconds of a 2hr+ movie. Let it go.

Stan Lee stays!

The cameos are done due to the studio's respect for him and its been a tradition and they are usually blink and you miss it cameos. Also, the man is in his mid 90s. He won't be around forever so why complain about it now really.

The cameos are pretty fleeting and barley register...for the most part.

But sometimes(actually pretty rarely) they kill the mood. Case in point: his egregious “Tony Stank” cameo/gag at the end of Civil War - that was awful but all and all I don’t mind them that much. I’d prefer they do away with them all together. They can be cute but they can also be rather irritating because of how forced some of them are.

And I might get a lot of flack for saying this but I do feel the end is near for the father of Marvel comics so perhaps these cameos will become something that is missed should that inevitable time(hopefully later than sooner) comes where Stan is no longer with us.

The Thor films have had cameos from Simonson and Straczynski.

I'm so used to expecting a Stan Cam it would be weird not to have one. Some small piece of my brain always expects it even when I know its not important.

I love his cameos, but I can understand why a few would be annoyed.

Im cool with the cameos. Its become a part of the MCU fabric. Just something to do for fun anyways.

I'm going to try to get deep here. Stan Lee cameos do three important things:

1) They acknowledge that these are fictions by taking time to pay homage to the surviving real life architect of so many Marvel characters. It touches the film with reality from the outside to give the audience permission to have fun with stuff that should be deadly serious and morose. The same reason we don't like it "taking us out of the movie" is part of the reason why the movies work as stories about nice people killing hundreds of other people and having a grand time doing it without us needing to feel guilty about having a good time too.

2) It allows these films which are king of the mountain to be humble and say they are not the greatest thing of all time by paying homage to the originals as represented by Stan Lee, just as other lesser Marvel franchises have. The MCU can't be an arrogant brand because it takes a moment out of its story to acknowledge Stan. Every. Single. Time. (even on characters he has nothing to do with).

3) It bulletproofs the films against accusations of changing the characters too much as the creator, or associated creator tacitly approves of all changes by appearing in the film. It godfathers in each film for comics fans, and invites all sorts of metanarrative shenanigans in a purely positive light.

Now, none of these require Stan specifically, but none can be accomplished as easily as having The Stan Lee show up for 3.7 seconds.
