watched it last night. it opened here in the Philippines, Valentines Day

i wanted to love this movie. i even lowered my expectations for this movie. but, dammit, it was disappointing. it was FUN. BUT DISAPPOINTING

here goes nothing:
- Blackheart looks lame. His entire look (the emo hair, the thick make-up, the trench coat) looks like he's spoofing Queen of the Damned, Angel & Blade.
- The Hidden (am i right? that's the name of his minions?) they're cool & all but why do they have to resort to the now-cliche trenchcoats too? i thought the agents of the Hand (from the Elektra movie) were better looking than these dudes.
- The editing and the script didn't work out well. there were lines that made Peter Fonda & Nicholas cage look like B-movie actors. Blaze's last line looked cheesy because of its monotony of angle. Several Mephisto scenes looked silly too.
- The fight scenes were SO NOT impressive. it's as if the wind demon was waiting for GR to kill him. same with the other members of the Hidden.

and here's the top scene that really raises the eyebrow:

- The Old GR used up his last GR transformation in order to JUST ACCOMPANY GR to where the bad guys were? THAT was IT... & he just went home? Oh man!

i agree, it was crap.
that dude who made it should be thrown out of hollywood so he can go and make movies with uwe boll.

oh man! & i just found out lately that he was also the same guy who directed DAREDEVIL????
WTF?!
well, i guess that's STRIKE TWO! & i don't want to see him directing a superhero/comic2film movie again
i can appreciate Daredevil with the highest tolerance. But it still goes out the same that it was crap, & badly needed to fall on a new director.

i don't care if they say he's a real Marvel comics geek, he's just proved his worth with a pitiful casualty. i don't want Mark Steven Johnson to ruin any more comicbook movies!

Im not going to agree with you guys. Im very picky with these kind of films, u must understand firstly its a comic book movie, just imagine how hard it must of been to squeez so much history under a time constraint and budget. Mark Steven Johnson isnt the best director, i even criticised him for Daredevil But after seeing this film, im praising him for doing such a great job.

What most ppl dont understand is that these kind of films should be respected for what they are, our favourite comic book heros come to life. Not A grand Masterpeice drama with action scenes on the side. Mark really did a great job bringing humor into the film, nicholas didnt do and emmy award winning performance but i cant remember a comic book film, in which an actor was nominateed for it. But thats beside my point.

8/10 only thing it lacked was a better fight scene at the end. And more history on the ghost rider, i was confused cause mark steven used a bit of the phantom rider in it which i lost track of lol but yeah. Oh and Mephisto needed more screen time he was a bit irratating at the start when they rushed the death and agreement but yeah.

But this was a great beginning, and great to make a sequal off with Vengeance or Zarathos. That would make me happy to see in the next film.

I agree that there were some letdowns in this movie but comparing msj to uwe boll is taking it too far. Go watch the trailer for the dungeon siege movie that uwe boll is making...there is no way ghost rider is anywhere near as bad as that crap. This movie has some lines that come across silly and a bit over the top and blackheart not really transforming was a bit of a disappointment but it was a good comic book film.

You have to go into this film knowing that its going to be like that because after all it is about a man who turns into a flaming skeleton at night to ride around hunting demons.

let me just say it had the aussie curse, movies filmed here in australia have always had problems.

p.s
Mark Steven Johnson made jack frost, if that was any warning sign for marvel i dont know what was.

it isnt a masterpiece but it never intended nor was it ever expected to be.. i think it was successfull at being what it is... an entertaining comic book movie. yes it was shallow and the storytelling seemed an afterthought but it was enjoyable non the less if u leave u brain at the door and accept it for what it is.
besides. GR is a cool character and nicholas cage is a charasmatic actor who looked like he had some fun making this film.
majorly dissapointed we didnt see blackhearts true form....i cannot understand why this wasnt done.
and yeah. the caretaker just leading GR to the place then leaving was pretty damn silly. there were a few moments or story archs that had silly holes in them. or were not explained. but oh well....
there were some cool moments though.
the jailbreak scene was awesome. i felt like cheering.

It's enjoyable. I love GHost Rider in his bike actions. But yeah, the fights are unsatisfying. The enemies are defeated way too easily

as i said, my expectations were way too low. of course, i did NOT expect GR to be a masterpiece. i also did not expect it to break any records or breakground in cinema. but still, it was disappointing. dont get me wrong, i also enjoyed the jailbreak scene & the transformations were way cool. But the entire package was unsatisfying.

it felt like the same way i felt about Blade Trinity, The Shadow, & just better than the awful Spawn movie

it's just that the movie made me familiar & conscious of Mark Steven Johnson's style

im seeing it tonight at 7:30 cause my buddy won tickets for free, i had no desire to see this movie otherwise, unless it was for a 99 cent rental.

if anybody wants to know anything specific, ask me away. i'll tell you if i liked it or not when i come home tonight.

Im on the same boat with you on this one. The movie was such a HUGE HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT..For starters, im a big ghost rider fan so every fiber within me wanted, wished and prayed this movie would succeed. Never had I planned to be part of those who would criticize this movie especially how the fanboy in me got excited the first time I heard that they would be making a movie about the Rider. But the movie was just so bad I can't seem to comprehend how they (everyone from the writers to the director) can screw this up considering MSJ has had all the insights of the G.R. concept coming from every G.R. fans all across the globe via this site. The first 15 minutes of the movie was a bit ok, the humor was tolerable and understandable, but after the scene where GR was shown whistling to his bike to come at his side (WTF was that???!!!!), everything just went downhill from there. I dont seem to pick up how MSJ wanted to portray the G.R. to the audience. A bit of humor in the movie helps the audience to lighten up, but an uncontrolled appoach just ruins the overall feel. As far as I know, he was never the cutesy, talkative, and god-forbid, the whistling-type of character. Almost everything about the "GR movie" character was an insult to the very concept that was portrayed on the comics all these years. Yes the GR-movie has the penance stare, the looks and the chains, but I dont think it is ALL that is about the GR everyone has read about. Btw, their explanation to the audience on how the penance stare works felt like it was just so forced...twas really lame IMHO :( Yeah its nice to finally see GR on the big screen but does it really take to have a masterpiece of a movie to say it is a good movie? I dont think so. A good story is a basic ingredient (surprise suprise..) and all those who say that just seeing flamehead appear on the big screen is enough, well I can't see the logic behind that (jeez, how old are you anyway??). The movie was not even entertaining to say the least..The story was rubbish, there was hardly any character development especially on the blackheart-henchies or the hidden-whatever-you-call-them, whose names I can hardly recall even up to now. Its like they were forced to be there just to be fodders for our hero. You realize how worthless of a characters they are when they start dieing and you dont give a rat's @ss about it. The plot was good, but the way it was executed in the movie was plain horrible...The action/fight scenes was...wait what actions???? And when the credits started to roll, one can't help but say "Thats It???". Oh well, atleast Peter Fonda was paid handsomely for this. Too bad, mephisto and blackheart are now officially a puss because of this. Honestly, it doesnt take a good critic to know how bad this film was. I believe no amount of director's cut announcement would help save this movie from all the bashing it would get in the next few days. Too bad it just have to had the "Ghost Rider" title in it..:csad: btw TripXyDE, watched it at rockwell powerplant. Really felt so bad how Ghost Rider turned out to be..sigh

There are two scenes that stands out from my memory (not in a good way). The first one was seeing GR call out to his hell-cycle doing this whistle-thing. Ofcourse the next scene we see the chopper driving faithfully to its master. Goodness, everything about it was so wrong (*cringe*). The second was when the regular chopper was shown to be communicating with cage by blinking the headlights and twas like saying time for him to transform to the rider. Man, that was Mask Rider Black written all over it...lol Yes, the movie was this bad for all those who havent seen it and reading this spoiler...

To each his own, I guess... there are already many ON HERE that have seen it and liked it... so to each his own.

^Yes. Listen to Tempest.

If you don't like it, then fine...but don't stay here in these GR forums continuously complaining about it...

Can anyone tell me...

1)How many times does Johnny Blaze transform into Ghost Rider in the film?

2)Is the first transformation the only time when it takes a while and it really hurts him?

CAH

btw TripXyDE, watched it at rockwell powerplant.

oi kababayan! :woot: watched it here in Iloilo City. Nice to see a kababayan around these boards!

these forums are our venues to vent out our frustrations of the film & to point out where mistakes and improvements should be made. these wouldn't be forums if it's all praise.

I'm not hating on you or anything, and it doesn't bother me as much as it does some others, but we understand that you don't like the movie...and thats fine.

But believe me, there'll be some who will see this thread and go completely apesh"t!

1)Quite a few. Hard to count cause when him and the old west gr are riding to meet blackheart they ride there as ghost rider then they change back to normal when they arrive and then johnny transforms back again to fight blackheart. I think blackheart knocks him out a few times too and he changes back to normal so there is a lot of quick changes.

2)Yeh pretty much. I think the prison might be the second time and he groans a bit but then he transforms really quickly and I think you might see the skin melt a bit in the prison...can't really remember but the first one is basically the only really painful one.

can someone describe how blackheart looked in demon form!?

X-wolvie, quite a few of the diappointments here are suggesting that Blackheart doesnt transform

He doesn't FULLY transform... By the looks of the teaser, the big wide grin with fangs and blue pigment IS the transformed Blackheart.

Or at least, I think so...

Already knew that though, after reading the novelization.

I always this movie would be nothing but a big Special Effects & CGI movie & it looks like I was right :o This movie is the next Daredevil but with Daredevil MSJ redeemed himself with the Directors Cut
