None of Marvel's films have depended on star power and I don't know why you think they'd start now.

Well, I disagree, at least when it comes to the Iron Man films, however you're right about their other films, but they've still always took people with comedic background and with charisma who makes great leads for their roles. Asa doesn't fit into this either and Spidey is the one who needs a charming funny lead more than ANY of them.

Tom actually fits into Marvel's casting patterns. he's very energetic and he's a natural wise-cracker like RDJ and Chris Evans.

Not to mention that his dad is a comedian, so the Apple didn't fall from the tree.

I agree with you Harry, if not Dylan then I want Tom to get it. He's a good choice.

Well, only the first Iron Man is relevant to the discussion and only Robert Downey Jr. is relevant there. Because the trend has been consistent to hire much more famous actors for supporting characters: Anthony Hopkins, Tommy Lee Jones, Glenn Close, Michael Douglas, Iron Man easily fits that trend (Terrence Howard, Gwyneth Paltrow). However, while Downey was known, he had effectively zero star power at the time due to past controversies.

He clearly has star power now, but I'd argue it was Iron Man that gave it back to him. The same will very likely be true for Chris Pratt who seems to be a big star, but certainly wasn't seen as having the same draw before.

It isn't all about comdey with Peter Parker though, People are focused on who will portray Spider-Man and forgetting Peter Parker is behind that mask.

Tom is an amazing Dramatic actor, he could give us a Peter Parker better than both Garfield and Maguire.

He can play both sides to the coin.

Tom Holland kinda exudes more warmth were as Asa seems to have a coldness and distance to him. Look wise, Asa kinda reminds me of Thomas Sangster but without the warmth that that actor exudes.

Tom Holland kinda has more of the likable goofy look about him and has that kinda Tom Sawyer , boy next door look about him. There's much more of a comfort level to him where as with Asa I don't really get that sense . Both have different energies.

Asa definitely has more of the stiff British reserve and retiring personality. That is quite unsuitable for Spider-Man. Even his voice sounds more stiff, dry and monotonous. Holland's energy carries through to his voice, which is more appropriate for Spidey and the wisecracks.

Heres toms dad

He's 5'6 btw

Heres Asa's dad (in the middle obviously)

If Asa ends up looking more like his dad when he gets older, that will not be a very good look for an older Peter Parker at all. He could still end up the weedy nerd who looks like he gets picked on.

His dad looks like a British man as well. I think Holland and even his father have a more American look to them.

harryo, serious question. Where have you seen Tom is a natural wise-cracker? Of the two finalist, I'm leaning toward Tom, but my fear is how will he pull off Spidey? If, he is as you say, a natural wise-cracker in the Marvel mold, that would certainly make me feel better in supporting Tom.

I'm still hoping for Tom over Asa.

besides the height issue, Tom just has a "warmer, friendlier" look about him.

Asa has a more "cold, intense" look.

I see Asa more as a young Harry Osborn than Peter Parker.

Go to Tom's instagram, you can easily see how much energy he has.

I'm not much for social media stuff. I do agree he seems to have more energy, which is part of the reason I favor him. I'm talking about wise-cracker.

You are mistaken. perhaps a better word to have described it would have been "he would be an a lot more natural wise-cracker than Asa".

I'm not mistaken. I'm going by what you said...

But, hey, I'm not fighting. It sounds like you want Tom now, and so do I (if Dylan O'Brien is not an option), so we're on the same side. Thought you saw something of Tom being a wise-craker. But if his dad is a comedian, maybe some has rubbed off on him.

I agree with Dark Raven that Tom and even his dad look more American than Asa and his dad. I think Holland would look right at home in high school here in the states, whereas Asa wouldn't as much.

I don't know what else to say about tom and asa. That I and others haven't already said. Still I feel more safer taking tom then asa. And I would be less disapointed if tom is picked.

It's funny, that's exactly what people said about Dylan when he was the most hyped actor.

Dude... So I start watching a video and all of a sudden, someone randomly shouts "SPIDER-MAN" as I'm thinking about Dylan. #TheSignsPoint #AllYouHaveToDoIsListen

No wonder Tom is not so tall. It's all about the genes... His dad is only 5'6".

Well I don't know that Tom could give us both sides of the character in the same way as O'Brien. We haven't really seen Tom doing very much comedy either. But he does have more of an energy and enthusiasm about him and more of an easygoing nature. Also, he has a better voice for the part. I guess only in that sense does he seem like he could do a better job as Spidey than Asa. But there definitely isn't quite the same confidence I'd have in him that I would in O'Brien. However, having to choose between Tom and Asa as being able to embody both sides, I'd go with Tom.

I finally was able to watch Ender's Game. While I found Asa to be very good, nope to that accent. It was wavering in and out and I just don't see how he can pull of Spidey so I'm still firmly on the side of Tom.

I've seen Ender's Game and Asa's accent was flawless.
