"Too much talking and not enough smashing" as summarized by 'Rotten Tomatoes' for the June 20th, 2003 release of 'Hulk'. I don't know about you guys, but I'm really looking forward to what they think of this one. I can bet you that 'The Incredible Hulk' will be spilt down the middle by the critics, 50/50. Just a bunch of arrogant critics sitting in the theatre right before opening day watching the movie while taking notes on everything that's flawed with it, give me a break. You give them smash, and they complain, you give them talk, they complain, what the hell do you really want? 50/50, well I guarentee you this film will be 50/50 on both accounts; the reviews and the material itself.

So, if anybody else wants to rant on about this subject, be my guest, this is now officially a rant thread on 'The Incredible Hulk', what's your rant?

why do you care what they think? lol

If the critics bash the hell out of this movie, you can be certain that it'll have an impact on the domestic take. So yes, we should care about what folks are gonna say. We want a good word-of-mouth going, to convince the general audience that this is worthwhile lest this go the way of Speed Racer.

The first one got mostly positive reviews, I know they weren't raves but they were mostly positive. The legs on it were far worse than on something like Fantastic Four despite the fact that it scored way higher with the critics, so...how important are critical reviews?

The ones people are going to listen to are the negative ones. You also have to consider that the same people who gave the first one a good review might be inclined to just write this off as a bad action movie. Plus, the second FF film underperformed in part because of all of the negative hype surrounding the first.

The second FF film was terrible, that movie was destined to bomb regardless of how its predecessor was.

I didn't think that the second FF was much worse than the first. I did like the first one better though...and yes people I liked FF.

me too. I like FF1 better.

I have another rant for you all, having to do with these media-crazed, ass-champ critics. While they're are sitting around in a movie theatre watching some other movie copying down notes onto their notepads about the scene and later analize how they felt about while they sit around in their suites having people serving them pancakes while they lie in their mammoth-sized beds drinking shots of vodka watching crap-films on the 50' screen TV across the room. Tommorrow morning they wake up, have someone stuff pillows behind their backs so they can go on their lap-tops to watch all of the footage so far released for the movie they're about to see later-on, making early assumptions on the film. I can personally guarentee you that these stuck-up, arrogant bastards walk into that movie theatre where they can sit where ever the hell they want even if somebody's already sitting there, the movie comes on and all they're thinking of is how bad the movie looked in the trailer. One thing critics will always have is the power to influence us on whether or not something will suck or not, when really, we should be looking to our peers; as in the people we trust, for the answers. Truth be told, critics know jack-S on what to think of a movie as they are doing the same damn thing day-in, day-out. The impression they give us on the movie ultimately decides what we think of it when we walk out. Anyone who actually wants to enjoy a movie, don't look to others to make up your damn minds unless they were your clone or something. I guarentee you, if you ignore all the early reviews for this film or any film for that matter, there's more chance that you will actually enjoy it. Just my two cents.

So did I, maybe because I wasn't focused on what others thought of it because I didn't own a computer, I just went to see the film on the opening week.

I liked all hero films before I joined the hype ....er, save for Elektra, Catwoman and B&R those are kind of unforgivable.

Now the hype and other peoples opinions have turned me into a jaded monster, :oldrazz: I kid. But, at one time I was a critic for a publication, my views weren't exactly popular though. (Calling 300 trash was well, probably the biggest fan backlash I had ever recieved.)

Trust me, as someone who has been there, being a critic, isn't about knowing good film from bad film. If you do that other critics call you uneducated and love to just rip you apart. It's about picking out all the bad a movie has to offer, and if there is anything redeeming left you say it's "alright." Unless of course it's a purely obscure non-blockbuster that no one saw. In that case you can call it artsy and call it one of the most brilliant films to ever hit the big screen.

I was a critic, I loved it, but it taught me that I should never listen to them. Oh, the irony.

^You hated 300 too! Sigh. You could hate all the rest of my favorite movies and you'd still be on my cool list.

We may disagree on some things but the more I see you post, the more you've upped the ranks on my cool list as well Spidey.

300, The Brothers Grimm and King Kong top my "Wanted to Walk Out of the Theater" list for the last few years.

^I liked KK but even I can admit that it had some horrible crap in it and it was atleast an hour too long. I can see why some people hated it. This is coming from a LOTR's fan girl and eternal Peter Jackson supporter.

God whatever.

Is everyone forgetting that Iron Man is the highest critically rated movie of the year so far? Are we supposed to hate ass champ critics for that too?

Well I think I am just not into Jackson, I don't know what it is. But it's okay, I realize (as with 300, Transformers, LoTR) that most people will never agree with my opinions on those. Interestingly enough, all but 300 even if I don't like them, I get a sick guilty pleasure from watching them (even King Kong when it comes on HBO.)

I don't get the 'not enough action' argument. I seem to recall some sort of Hulk related action every 20-30 minutes in the movie.

If I were a teacher, and a kid got an A on one of my tests, but failed on most of the assignments, I wouldn't be to proud of him.

Obviously critics are not applying themselves. :oldrazz: (I kid.) But yes, I do hate critics, and it's not because they say whether a film is put together right or not. It's a valuable service. But what ends up happening is the GA takes their word as law... which simply isn't the case.

If you love a campy Jason or Freddy movie (and I do love the latter) go out and watch it. A lot of people refuse to even give movies chances due to reviews, which may certainly be the case with TIH (as they already didn't like HULK in 03) even if it turns out to be highly entertaining... and that's a shame.

Thats cool, different strokes as they say. I didn't like Transformers either, it was fun but made me dumber after watching it. You probably feel the same way about Jackson as I feel about Bryan Singer. His movies just don't do anything for me.

I actually agree with you on this. After I viewed the movie again I realized that the problem wasn't how much action was in the movie but how it was spaced out and filmed.

Man how I wish people got that on these forums.

I feel the same way about Singer as you do. :woot:

The only good thing Singer gave me was House M.D., and really, he only directed what? The first episode, and produces it? How I love that show. X-men was enjoyable but it's not something I would rave over.

As I've said before, I don't like it when people disagree with me...lol crazy I know, but I accept that they do. Unlike myself who loved them, you can hate the first two Spidey and Blade films but don't tell me that I shouldn't love them anymore than I should tell you what to like.

And I wasn't always like this, I was kinda a nut in the olden days, in real and virtual world. I've matured in the last few years. Like everyone I still have my "I shouldn't have said that moments" but I must say, in my defense, that I'm always sincere in my opinions.

This doesn't make any sense. Use an analogy that works.

Even if a critic doesn't like Freddy vs. Jason, which not all do, a person by reading the review can still still if they want to see the movie or not, or if to them its worth seeing.
