I know this thread is kinda early, but so was the last one. Let me repost what Lunar wrote in last years thread:

It's obvious none of us here have seen 10 films yet, but there's much to discuss, like

  • What films do you think will make your top 10?
  • Discuss these film with other people, debate why you think they'll make it and so on
  • You can also post trailers, images and all that stuff and say ''Hey check out this mother ****ing trailer, this might be my number one come this summer''.

Alright? good. Now let's get to the talking!

I know a couple of movies I can see make it to my top 10:
The Dark Knight Rises
The Hobbit
Avengers
Prometheus
Gravity
World War Z
Django Unchained
The Great Gatsby

The only 2012 I've seen in the past 24 days is Contraband, and it sucked.

The Dark Knight Rises
007: Skyfall
The Avengers
The Amazing Spider-Man
Prometheus

1) The Dark Knight Rises (Christopher Nolan, what can go wrong?)
2) The Avengers (Joss Whedon, what can go wrong?)
3) The Amazing Spider-Man (I'm an adoptee, the whole 'parents' angle already has me sold)
4) 007: Sky Fall (a no brainer, really)
5) Red Dawn (cheating, already saw it - it rules!)
6) Chronicle (hopefully, I relate to Andrew a lot lol)
7) American Reunion (cheating, already saw it - best comedy of the year)
8) The Hobbit (Peter Jackson is awesome, unsure how it will translate though)
9) Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Slayer (if it's anything like the script it's going to be cool)
10) Project X (sue me, I'm "tied" to it, so it's a no brainer)
Close tie with: 11) Men in Black 3 (I like the first two)

NOTE: I, luckily, have either seen or read the scripts for a lot of these so that kinda gives me an advantage at getting this mostly right. Even Whedon, kinda - although that was Wonder Woman, and just reading that? Avengers may top Dark Knight Rises for me maybe.

Oh, wrong list.

So I guess this is my "Expectations Top 10" for 2012:

1. The Dark Knight Rises
2. Gravity
3. The Avengers
4. Prometheus
5. Looper
6. The Amazing Spider-man
7. Seven Psychopaths
8. Brave
9. Skyfall
10. The Cabin in the Woods

Others I have high expectations for (in no particular order):

Django Unchained

The Place Beyond the Pines
The Gangster Squad

Whichever Terrence Malick Movie Gets Released This Year (if anything)
Gambit
The Untitled Charlie Kaufman/Spike Jonze movie
Snow White and the Huntsman
Dark Shadows
Only God Forgives
Moonrise Kingdom
Lincoln
Les Miserables
The Master

I'm trying to get hyped for The Hobbit, but it's just not happening. Yet.

I'm sure there will be a few "little" movies whose existence I am unaware of at this point which will swoop in and become favorites (like The Artist, Warrior and Drive did for me in 2011), and I'm also sure there's a good chance a few of the ones I listed above will disappoint. But if my list at the end of the year looks anything like that, I'll be a very happy moviegoer.

I'm so not finished with 2011 yet! :p

It's too unpredictable what would make it into a Top Ten because a lot of the films that made my list for last year, I wouldn't have bothered to check out if it weren't for reading great reviews or personal recommendations.

But just browsing through wikipedia's list of what's coming up in 2012, the ones I'm looking forward to are:

Chronicle
John Carter
Mirror Mirror
The Hunger Games
The Cold Light of Day (for Henry Cavill :))
Cabin in the Woods
The Avengers
Snow White and the Huntsman
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
The Amazing Spiderman
The Dark Knight Rises
Red Dawn
The Hobbit

1) The Avengers
2) The Dark Knight Rises
3) 007: Skyfall
4) Prometheus
5) The Hobbit
6) American Pie - Reunion
7) The Amazing Spider-Man
8) Safe House
9) The Bourne Legacy
10) Chronicle

Only films I'm really interested in seeing this year.

7. Red Tails
6. Joyful Noise
5. Contraband
4. Underworld: Awakening
3. Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close
2. Beauty & The Beast 3D
1. Haywire

The Grey is going to be a strong contender on my top 10.

N/A (I don't count re-releases on my official list). Beauty & The Beast 3D

............................................................

That's it. Though, I plan to check out Haywire.

I don't have 10. Just 5.

1. Dark Knight Rises
2. Prometheus
3. Expendables 2
4. The Hobbit
5. Skyfall

I don't have any idea what will end up on my top ten for 2012 but I'd lay odds of The Avengers, The Grey and The Hobbit having a place there. I wouldn't hazard a guess as to any of the others this year.

So far I've only seen two(which in and of itself is impressive since it still just January).

1. The Grey 7.5/10
2. Chronicle 7/10
3. Haywire 4/10
