While Batman was the movie franchise to reinvigorate the superhero genre, it can also be argued X-Men was the franchise that kick started the entire comic book movie craze. X-Men proved fans would flock to the theaters to see a superhero movie, despite the characters not being well known outside of comic book fans. This led to Spider-Man and the eventual explosion of Marvel movies in the early part of the last decade. And X-Men proved to be amazingly popular to movie fans, not surprising since the comics it was based on were always one of the most popular in comic circles.

Hell, Wolverine was named the number one comic book hero of all time. This might come as a surprise to non-comic book fans, such as Roger Ebert who said that it must be "the result of a stuffed ballot box" in his Wolverine review. But, he is in the minority. Regardless of Wolverine's lack of saying "anything witty, insightful or very intelligent" (Ebert's words, not mine), he is one of the most brutally entertaining characters in the Marvel Universe. Now, looking back over the four X-Men movies, I see they have introduced 39 mutants in various forms and while some have been spot on, others have made a mockery of the characters they represent.

In this week's Alternate Takes, I am starting a look at the 20 most important representations of the mutants in the four movie series and seeing who cuts the mustard and who should have just went *BAMF* into the night. On a final note, my rankings are more determined by how loyal the movie characters are to the originals, not on how the characters stand alone in the movies.

*The Character's Not Included in the Top 20:
The Bad Guys not making my list: Multiple Man, Deathstrike, Jason Stryker

I don't think he put Pyro in as he was going by how faithful they were to the books, and Pyro was completely different.

Ok, I am going to do my own, just based on how well they were adapted...
