Top 3 favorite Batman Graphic Novels

You know, I never liked Arkham Asylum.

My top three are TLH, TKJ, and Year One in no order. So good.

Have you guys read Gotham Central?

I really wanted to put GC in my list somewhere but I couldn't single out any one particular tpb :csad: :D. the obvious one is the Joker story, it's one of the best Joker stories ever ("somebody call the cops!") but I also have a soft spot for the dead Robin one too.

Dr.Watson, Mckeans art in Black Orchid is not exactly in the same vain as Arkahma Asylum. It's generally more 'clean' and less haunted. But still very nice. I'll post more scans when i get a chance. As for the writing Gaimain never misses a beat, as usual. He is still my favourite comic writer of all time so maybe i'm just that biased though.

i heard somewhere that The Long Hallowween carried a lot of tone from BURTON MOVIES... i'm gonna read it again!

Good to know. It still looks quite mesmerizing from the scans you posted.

So, I finally read Arkham Asylum. It was great. I do have one complaint though: Is is just me or did Batman sort of act out of character in it?

The Dark Knight Returns-Easily one of the best written pieces of literature, I have ever seen. Amazingly written and I feel some reason apart of Batman and Bruce Wayne.

The Killing Joke-Simply the greatest adaption to the greatest villian of all time. Nobody can beat this novel out when it comes to The Joker. Amazingly written and somebody who gets it right...

The Long Halloween-A great add on to the Batman greats of Graphic Novels that explores alot more into villians to the fact that I like it. It sometimes is a bumpy ride but finishes off strong...

Honorable Mentions

Hush:Great Graphic Novel plagued by an unknown bad guy that has no realtion to Bruce is previous works. But still this series has a brutal fight between Caped Crusader and The Boy Scout

Batman and Spawn:Call it what you want, this is a pretty decent version of the two Dark Heroes but has some issues at times with plot.

I think that is the point. Batman is supposed to be confronting his psyche in the most extreme way in that book, thus he acts at time insane and weaker then he has at other times appeared.

Owhh yeah, that's a good one. :applaud

Yeah, Batman Versus Predator is a good one I got both of them but the older one is the best.

Do have the new edition with Morrisons notes? He explains how he went with a characterisation that suited the story then but he doesn't really agree with today. In AA Batman is repressed, clenched and "with the posture of an obsesivve, anal personality...a threatened boy who made himself terrible at the cost of his own humanity.... He is completelty uncapabe of any kind of sexual relationship." Is this the kind of stuff you're talking about as out-of-character? It's supposed to be a critique of the devlopment into a 'gritty' and borderline psychopathic Batman in the 80's, though as he says it's undefinitive and almost in polar oppostion to the Batman he wrote in JLA and ongoing today. He is more frightened and fragile in AA than any other portrayal.

Batman: Ego
One of the very few Bruce Wayne works. Beautifully written and drawn, complex story that doesnt drag and some amazing insight on the character.
Devil's Advocate
Probably one of the greatest Joker stories where Batman has a chance to shine as a more complex character, portraying his unique sense of Justice.
Red Rain
Creeeeepy.

I just read Gotham Central Half a Life and that might be one of my new favorites. Though not really a batman story; more a Renee Montoya story.

i cant pick three so in addition to the holy trinity of the killing joke, year one, and the dark knight returns, i really like

arkham asylum: serious house on serious earth
batman: year 100
gotham by gaslight
man who laughs
the long halloween and dark victory
son of the demon
dark knight strikes again (very underrated/misunderstood imo)
monster men and mad monk
war on crime
and
black and white vol 1 and 2

None of the Gotham Central stories are Batman centered.

I know non of them are batman centered; but it is under my top 3 batman tops despite the fact it has very little batman in it mr gump

The Dark Knight Returns
The Long Halloween
The Killing Joke
Dark Victory
Hush

These are probably the definitive Batman comics to share with anyone.

1. dark knight returns
2. the long halloween
3. dark knight strikes again(i dont know what it is with this story, if its because of the directions miller took with it or because its so dang epic, i just love it)

1) Strange Apparitions
2) Year One
3) The Last Arkham

I don't even think The Long Halloween is even in my Batman top 10 let alone top 3.

*ducks tomatoes*
