Um....let's see, i own alot....my favorite three....(thinkin'....thinkin'...)
Don't want to say Kraven's Last Hunt, because everyone will...

Ok....

The Black Costume Saga
Todd McFarlane's run, Volume One
The Return of the Green Goblin

Can't go wrong with the essentials...:yay:
especially x-men. which is always good IMO.

but since we're talking about top 3 spidey tpbs.

I agree with Farmie for the most part.

my fav. tpbs are
venom
return of the goblin
and
coming home

Death of Gwen Stacy
Kraven's Last Hunt
and Quesada's Favorite THE WEDDING!!! (The one with The comic book/Newspaper Strip/Shea Stadium and the Not Brand Ecch! Spidey Wedding)

IMO

Spiderman Blue
Essential Peter Parker Spectacular Spiderman Vol. 1
Spiderman Tangled Web Vol. 1

I really really like coming home,
I do like the end of the clone saga as well with revelations and night of the goblin.
spiderman:the lost years.

i'm not coming across as a jrjr **** here am i?

JR Jr. is good, but the Romita's are not the best thing to hit Spidey. Maybe the best thing to hit Daredevil though

There is absolutely nothing wrong with that! I question anyone who doesn't get a little ****ty when it comes to JRJR!!:woot:

As for me, my favorite SPidey books are as follows:

1. Amazing Spider-Man Omnibus
All of the Lee/Ditko issues....ALL OF THEM!!! There is nothing better in all of comcidom!!!!

2. Death of the Stacys hardcover
Spider-man brought to his knees by two of his most powerful foes....back when big-time deaths in comics were actually shocking!

3. Kraven's Last Hunt
This one cannot be recommended enough. You will read this book, and you will always remember it in someway. It's that good.

well the reason i picked Essential Peter Parker Spectacular Spiderman Vol. 1, was because it's close to 600 pages and I bought it for $1.00 and it has some of the greatest stories in it!

The ones I read the most are not the typical ones you would consider... so I'm not sure I would say best, just the ones I dig out most often.

Spider-Man: Revelations TPB (out of print, with the added 14 pages of Ben Reilly getting whupped by Norman)

Spider-Man: Venom Returns (or whatever... the second Venom volume with the Erik Larson Venom stories where Peter faces the V-Man on that tropical Island)

And ofcourse Spider-Man: Kraven's Last Hunt

JR Jr. is good, but the Romita's are not the best thing to hit Spidey. Maybe the best thing to hit Daredevil though

lol....
without Romita Spidey might have stayed a skinny hero.
and we wouldn't have The Mary jane design we do today.
the same Spider-man design we see today is pretty much the romita design. so for him to completely revamp the look of the characters (from the previous artist) and his designs continue to be used today....I say he IS the best thing to hit Spidey/

as for JR.JR. he's my favorite artist.
I like Mike deodato Jr. a bit more for Spidey though...

1)Spider-Man: Blue

...

then whatever you want for the next two.

Blue is probably one of the greatest TPB's for Spidey there is. Art and story is just fantastic.

what's this i hear about an additional 14 pages of revelations???

Essential Amazing Spider-man vol 1 and 2 (or omnibus, basically the ditko/lee run)
Death of the Stacys
Kraven's last Hunt

runners up: spider-man blue, Ultimate Spider-man vol 1, coming home, ultimate spider-man vol 4

QUESTION, is any or all of the Essential books in black & white?

I went to my library & saw essential avengers vol. 2 & it was B&W

what the hell?

Well, the Essentials are meant to be cheap reprint collections of the older issues, so they are in black and white and on cheap paper for those who just want to know the story. If you want to good quality reprints, try the Marvel Masterworks. Those are expensive, but they are full color and high quality.

Spider-Man: Blue

Coming Home (sentimental reasons... not necessarily the best writing or story, but the art is phenomenal.)

Ultimate Spider-Man: Volume One, Barnes and Noble exclusive - it's a 600+ page anthology and collection of every Ultimate Spider-Man comic book up through issue 75, including script treatments for some issues and concept art.

Ooh. I wish I knew about the 1-75 ultimate spider-man collection. I'm currently collecting ultimate spider-man trades, and have 1-6. I'm very fond of ultimate norman osborn or far. He is very menacing, and the ultimate green goblin is an interesting new take on a classic character that works really well in the ultimate universe. I like ultimate eddie brock but I'm not sure I like the zombie-like personality of ultimate venom.

Ultimate Spider-Man vol 1
Coming Home
Death of Gwen Stacy

Hon. Mention: Amazing Spider-Man Back In Black. The beating up of Kingpin was amazing, and watching Peter throw that jeep through a window. Excellent stuff.

Though I'm about to read The Death of Jean DeWolf which I guess is suppose to be one of the best.
