From the pyramids and rolling dunes of Egypt during the Ptolemaic dynasty, to the high seas during the golden age of piracy, to the style and imagination of the Italian renaissance and many more Assassin's Creed has certainly gave us some excellent time periods to mess around in. With the latest being set during the Peloponnesian War between Athens and Sparta.

With so many great time periods already explored some might think we are running out of places to go, but there is still plenty of great settings. So with that in mind in no particular order here's my top 5 picks for the next Assassin's Creed Setting

5. Feudal Japan (1185AD-1603)
This is never going away until they give us that Japanese assassin so many have of us have been wanting for years. I know many would want to play as a Samurai but personally I think a ninja would be more fitting for an Assassin's Creed game (I mean they are the archetypal assassins). Plus with Ghost of Tsushmia coming soon from Sucker Punch, Ubisoft may want to make their take on Feudal Japan distinguishably different.

4. The Viking Age (800AD-1066)
Do you know what Viking literally means? Freebooter, sea-rover, pirate, raider. Now these might not sound like Assassin quality's but what if instead of raiding for gold and silver you were raiding for Templars. Making either France or England the main residence of the Templar order who are trying to restore their control over Europe since the fall of Rome. Plus it would be shoe in to feature naval combat, which seems to always be a winner in any AC game.

3. World War 2 (1939AD-1945)
This seems to be one that people either love the idea of or hate. Having a German Jew infiltrate the Nazi's working his way through high ranking officials on his way to eventual assassination of Hitler. There is always talk that Hitler was obsessed with the occult the pieces of Eden would fit that description perfectly. I do realise the heavy use of guns would mean either a serious return to complete stealth mode or having an assassin use guns which I know would totally change the experience and feel of the game.

2. The Wars of the Roses (1455AD-1487)
One of the bloodiest civil wars in the history of England could make a very good backdrop for a AC game. It's a very simple but good formula having either Lancaster or York play the Templar's and the other being backed by the assassins. This game could also feature our very first Assassin/Knight of the series, which could definitely be cool.

1. The Mongol Empire (120AD-1368)
If the franchise ever wants to go straight up crazy and give us a bit of nostalgia at the same time then this is the one. Featuring not one, or two, or three, or four but five assassins! On a mission to take down one of the most dangerous men of all time Genghis Khan. Basically Altair (our first assassin) suspects Genghis Khan is using the sword of Eden to takeover the world. He is right and with his wife Maria and son Darim they travel to hunt him down teaming up with a Mongol assassin Qualan Gal on the way. It would provide a whole other dynamic to any previous AC game we have making it a multi-assassin game. It would also give a chance to further flesh out and revisit Altair character, seeing him go from a lone assassin all those years ago to the leader of the order with his own family.

What would be your choice?

If you don't see your preferred time period on the list please mention what time period you would like to see below

Modern Day. Honestly I would love to see the series take place in modern day now.

I understand if they don't do Japan. I would just look forward to Ghosts of Tsusima and maybe Sekiro.

Yes to Mongolia. But I don't want them to go back to the countries they've already heavily featured like France and England. I think the next game would either be similar to Origins/Odyssey, set before the first few games or another Unity/syndicate type of setting. My pick would be the latter, and I want it to be set in the early 1900s (and I hope it is not connected to WW and WW2). If its like Odyssey or Origins, I want them to go to Norway or just something different to the climate of Egypt/Greece.

As for a full modern day setting Ac game, I hope that doesn't happen. Personally, the appeal of these games, is they are open world set in the old times. Ubisoft has Watch Dogs for an open world modern day setting and when it comes to Ac games, I usually treat the present day segments as a long commercial. Its there and I just want to jump back into the past.

I would love to see them set it at some point in Israel’s history. It has such an interesting and contentious history and it would be good to help people understand why it figures so prominently in history.

Out of the list though I said Vikings because who wouldn’t love that. They weren’t big on assassins though which I must admit I missed with odyssey

Personally i would be for a setting we dont expect at all or a place we dont expect...something outside the box.
But from those i would definitly be into Vikings.

Medieval Europe. 1100-1300

The opening of Unity got me wanting a proper medieval AC.

Modern Day. Honestly I would love to see the series take place in modern day now.

It's a neat idea until one really examines it. I think the concept of the Assassins, as they exist in this series, breaks down in modern day settings. Once modern guns, particularly sniper rifles are invented, and modern tech is invented theres very little reason for Assassins to do many of the things that makes up the core mechanics of this series. It would cease to be an Assassin's Creed game and would become every other stealth secret agent type game. Or an outright rip off of the Hitman series.

And with modern social media and phones there is absolutely no way an assassin could go climbing around on modern skyscrapers and doing the sort of public stuff they do in these games without being caught on camera and spread all over the news and social media.

Assassin's work best in the past and in a very very limited capacity in short modern day scenes.

Besides, Ubi already tested the concept, sort of. It's called Watchdogs and it was awful.

Alot of theories from the internet said it would cap off "the Origins trilogy". I haven't played 1, 3, Origins and Odyssey yet, but have they featured the origin of the Animus tech? I'd like to see that in the present day section. Though the past setting should still be like 90% of the game.

I really don't want them to go back to Italy. Norway, Spain, Mongolia, Korea, Australia, Peru... I want those countries to be featured as the main location, preferably a location in the southern part of Asia.

Sorry if I'm bumping this, but the search button is finally working and I read this thread.

And I forgot I posted that I wanted Norway in December 2018, before the rumours came out. So thats nice that its the location for the next ac.

I already said in the Valhalla thread, Ubisoft Quebec is probably already working on the next Ac especially if they intend to release it next year. My ideas are always changing but right now I want:

1. Mongol Empire set in Mongolia/Kazakhstan or anywhere in Central Asia. I just found out yesterday, that one of the statues displayed in Ac2, was an Assassin that killed Genghis Khan. I don't expect Ubisoft to portray Genghis as a villain and kill him in a game but I think this would be very cool.

2. Spanish Empire set in Spain. Its weird that the live action film was set in Spain but I don't recall any of the games featuring Spain. I think this could look similar to the towns in Black Flag . But Spain has so many historical sites and I'd love to free roam in Madrid and Catalonia and see bulls.

3. Originally i didn't want a World War 1/2 Acgame but an Ac twist of WorldWar 1 or 2 wouldbe interesting. I enjoyed the small portion we got in Unity/Syndicate. I'd like Germany as the main setting if its the 2nd game.

4. Korea, I think Japan is never going to happen so as China. And personally ancient Korean times is more intriguing as I always see ancient Japan and ancient China in movies/tv/games.

5. Sikkim would be really cool but India was already used in Chronicles so who knows.

6. South America countries like Brazil, Peru, Chile and Argentina would be great. Though I don't know much about their history.

Mexican Revolution(1910-1920)

Spanish Empire(15th-19th century spain)

Feudal Japan

Present Day

Even though we are kind of getting it in the Ghost of Tsushima game, I still want an AC game set in feudal Japan. After that, I wouldn't mind a game set in Russia during the era of the Czars.

Ghost of Tsushima is a PS exclusive but even if multiplatform, alternative games of the same genre or story elements is always a good thing.

Something I appreciate about the AC development deal that would make a feudal japan worth it despite it being a common thing in film or shows is the care, love and respect that goes into research for historical accuracy

I would love an AC game set in Russia. I'm curious if the 2021 or 2022 game would follow the footsteps of Origins/Odyssey/Valhalla. Or its going to be somewhat different.

Follow in their footsteps in what way?

Follow in their footsteps in what way?
Going full Rpg. Here's how I categorize the Ac games

The original
Ezio trilogy (with 2/3 of the games featuring Assassin assist and only 1 map)
III/Black Flag/Rogue (featured Naval combat and set in North America)
Syndicate/Unity (big city/the present days are just cutscenes)
Origins/Odyssey/Valhalla (Layla/full rpg with fantastical skill moves/enemies)

Ah yeah, didn't think about that before

There’s so many periods in South Korea’s history I would love to explore, periods when they had to defend from two gigantically powerful countries at the same time, China and japan. It would be so epic and something we haven’t seen a million times in games already

I'm compiling features that weren't present in all games. Correct me if I missed anything

Crowd stealthing - 1 to Unity, might return in Valhalla
Animal as your transportation- 1, 2, Brotherhood, Origins, Odyssey, Valhalla
Gandola/small boat - 2, Origins, Odyssey
Wanted posters - Brotherhood, Revelations, III
Bribe someone/pay money to remove wanted level - II, Revelations, Brotherhood, Black Flag, Odyssey
Income every 20 to 30 minutes - Brotherhood, Revelations, Rogue
