From the pyramids and rolling dunes of Egypt during the Ptolemaic dynasty, to the high seas during the golden age of piracy, to the style and imagination of the Italian renaissance and many more Assassin's Creed has certainly gave us some excellent time periods to mess around in. With the latest being set during the Peloponnesian War between Athens and Sparta.
With so many great time periods already explored some might think we are running out of places to go, but there is still plenty of great settings. So with that in mind in no particular order here's my top 5 picks for the next Assassin's Creed Setting
5. Feudal Japan (1185AD-1603)
This is never going away until they give us that Japanese assassin so many have of us have been wanting for years. I know many would want to play as a Samurai but personally I think a ninja would be more fitting for an Assassin's Creed game (I mean they are the archetypal assassins). Plus with Ghost of Tsushmia coming soon from Sucker Punch, Ubisoft may want to make their take on Feudal Japan distinguishably different.
4. The Viking Age (800AD-1066)
Do you know what Viking literally means? Freebooter, sea-rover, pirate, raider. Now these might not sound like Assassin quality's but what if instead of raiding for gold and silver you were raiding for Templars. Making either France or England the main residence of the Templar order who are trying to restore their control over Europe since the fall of Rome. Plus it would be shoe in to feature naval combat, which seems to always be a winner in any AC game.
3. World War 2 (1939AD-1945)
This seems to be one that people either love the idea of or hate. Having a German Jew infiltrate the Nazi's working his way through high ranking officials on his way to eventual assassination of Hitler. There is always talk that Hitler was obsessed with the occult the pieces of Eden would fit that description perfectly. I do realise the heavy use of guns would mean either a serious return to complete stealth mode or having an assassin use guns which I know would totally change the experience and feel of the game.
2. The Wars of the Roses (1455AD-1487)
One of the bloodiest civil wars in the history of England could make a very good backdrop for a AC game. It's a very simple but good formula having either Lancaster or York play the Templar's and the other being backed by the assassins. This game could also feature our very first Assassin/Knight of the series, which could definitely be cool.
1. The Mongol Empire (120AD-1368)
If the franchise ever wants to go straight up crazy and give us a bit of nostalgia at the same time then this is the one. Featuring not one, or two, or three, or four but five assassins! On a mission to take down one of the most dangerous men of all time Genghis Khan. Basically Altair (our first assassin) suspects Genghis Khan is using the sword of Eden to takeover the world. He is right and with his wife Maria and son Darim they travel to hunt him down teaming up with a Mongol assassin Qualan Gal on the way. It would provide a whole other dynamic to any previous AC game we have making it a multi-assassin game. It would also give a chance to further flesh out and revisit Altair character, seeing him go from a lone assassin all those years ago to the leader of the order with his own family.
What would be your choice?
