163 minute run time? is that the first we've heard of an official run time? 2 hours 43 minutes?

I guess so. The event was created directly by the society and they would have the run-time info.

^I was actually a little suprised that U of T managed to pull this off. It's entirely possible though that they are doing this with other universities around North America. Maybe check your local schools film programs/student societies to see if there are any other annoucements.

I live quite close to Toronto. I'll see if I can go.

so its official that it will be a 2 hr 43 min movie?
:woot: good to see that it will be a about 3 hr movie

I'd go, but I dont wanna wait for hours to get a ticket when i can see 3 days later, with a bunch of friends and stress free. I'll go and see how it goes, but if it ends up being a big line, then I'll just leave...I guess it doesn't hurt to give it an attempt. But over a 1,000 people attending but might seem like I'd have to go four hours ahead of time.

But also nice to know its 163 mins.

2:43?! NICE! That has me pretty enthusiastic!

You know, I've been wondering if I should wait to intitiate my friends into Watchmen (the ones who don't like reading or comics but love movies) via the DVD with all the stuff spliced in, or just take them to the theater. I have no idea which version would be best for first timers.

Maybe I'm overthinking it. :csad: lol

Return of the King was 3 hours and 20 minutes.

still made over a billion dollars somehow.

Lord Of The Rings was always the exception to the rule. King Kong in 2005 was a remake of a classic movie and had the same director but people didn't feel like watching that for 3 hours (personally I think the story didn't require 3 hours)

People just don't have the attention span.

"Somehow"?

That's like saying that "somehow", THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST made a lot of money at the box office. :)

LOTR was based on what is likely the most beloved fantasy classic of all time. And RETURN OF THE KING was the third movie in an already MASSIVE series of movies, both of which had been wildly successful.

WATCHMEN may be better than LOTR on some level, but it's not as well known.

It's a bit of a different situation.
