'Total Recall' ready for revival

Mars was a great addition to the Dick story.

Also whocares if this is closer to the original story? It has a s**t director directing it and a bad writer writing it, it has no chance of being as good as the original or even a good movie period.

But Total Recall has a very cartoonish style, even in 1990 a lot of it's ideas for the future were just bizarre, so for that reason it gets a pass.
okay, i'll buy that...but then the outdated effects and gratuitous action ensures that it stays in the early 90's.

Minority Report takes itself seriously and that means it will be criticised more when it turns out to be wrong.
not necessarily...despite teleportation not being possible right now, Star Trek was no less criticized for it's ideas than many of the impossible technologies and circumstances in the Star Wars prequels.

A couple of those 'cartoon-y' elements were taken directly from other PKD stories, the Johhny Cab is from 'Now Wait for Last Year'(iirc, haven't read it, but it was referred to in an book excerpt in a pkd doc) and the threee booobed woooman is from the ss 'The Golden Man'.
ohhh...interesting. thanks for sharing! lol @ threee booobed woooman.

Part of the appeal of Sci-fi is not just trying to guess what will happen in the future, it is merely to have fun with ideas. I don't think those kind of fantastical elements date a movie, what dates a movie is having elements in the film that belong squarely to a time in movie history. So I would say the thing that dates TR is the fact you have Arnie S running around spouting McBainisms, much as he did in every other action movie he did in the 80s.
good post...kudos.

Kurt Wimmer is directing this . . . uh yeah.

I know Equilibrium has a cult following, but Kurt Wimmer directs b movies. Sorry, but it's true.

correction, Len Wiseman is directing. while he's no Spielberg i've enjoyed his movies...which is more than i can say for Kurt Wimmer's.

Wiseman did Die Hard 4 which was pretty good. Haven't seen any Underworld movies.

Disappointed there will be no Mars in this movie. Booooo

Saw a bit of the Arnie movie recently and it was mad crazy...lol

again, i disagree. Spielberg's Minority Report will hold up for a long time because he based that world on a realistic future. however, Verhoeven based Total Recall on a fantastical future. robot taxis with human features, tv screen phone stations, 3 boobed chicks, even a lot of the action scenes...all these things are "cool" but they're not like the technology and action scenes in MR, where everything feels real and makes sense...and will do so decades from now. not to mention a lot of the technology from Minority Report is now coming to fruition where as nothing from Total Recall has happened.

20 years later, Total Recall is dated and feels like an other worlds 90's film. 10 years from now, Minority Report will be almost 20 years old and it will still feel like a plausible futuristic sci fi thriller.

Well if that is the case then you must hate Back to the Future Part 2. Nothing in the 2015 future of Hill Valley will come true. Here we are four years away and there's no holographic movies, hell we've only just improved 3D LOL, no hoverboards, no flying cars, no self blow drying jackets, there's not even self tying shoelaces! So do you think that should be remade? Because it is unarguably dated.

nah...some things just shouldn't be remade and Back to the Future falls into that category. however, i don't feel that Total Recall does.

glad you agree that those types of things date movies though. mind you, i'm not saying it's such a bad thing...after all, the most financially successful movie at the moment has a whole race that is fantastical.

What's that? Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Pirates, or none of the above?

Damn, and that question was on double jeopardy last night.

I don't know, the Cubs may win the World Series sometime within the next few years.

i wonder if a chick with 3 **** will be in the new movie

I mean thats what we all care about really :woot:

I still don't see why this needed to be remade, personally I thought the original was a classic and should remain as such.

Yeah, there are always non-entity morons out there who will try to twist something deep and meaningful into something that sounds cheap. You can tell they have no idea what they are talking about, and even if they did and knew better, they wouldn't want to admit it was not how they wish to illustrate it.

I hope both are topless. At least one of them.

Preferrably Beckinsale.

Bill Nighy To Play Quatto

Bill Nighy is in negotiations to join the cast of Total Recall, Columbia’s Colin Farrell-led remake of the 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger action movie.
The film, which starts shooting in June in Toronto and will be directed by Len Wiseman, also stars Bryan Cranston as the villain, and Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel as the female leads. Ethan Hawke is on board for a cameo.

I'm pretty sure Nighy won't be portray as a mutant baby in the remake.

No matter what, the original was such a weird and off beat film that nothing can take that away from it.

I just hope he sticks something up his nose and pulls out a robo-booger. That had to be the most painful, f**ked up thing I saw in a movie when I was a kid.

I dig the cast so far.

And Wiseman is a fine director. Do you notice no one breaks out into epileptic fits during his action scenes? That qualifies him as a decent director.

So who plays Richter?
