Ok I'm all for remakes like Escape from NY, War of the Worlds, King Kong, Fantastic Voyage, Clash of Titans, etc...

But this is stupid. Total Recall (don't laugh) is still my #1 favorite film of all time. I just love it. The film didn't suffer from a low budget, it still looks damn good, and it's not really neccessary to make a remake of this film.

Now a sequel I could understand but even that isn't needed. It's not the type of franchise you want to see continue. It's a one shot deal. Escape from NY deserves it as do the others. Remakes are usually not better than the original when they try to just duplicate them and that's it. That's why I loved Assault on Precinct 13, the remake disguised as a sequel (The Thing), and so on.

This is not needed.

I never even thought of Total Recall as a franchise anyway. Just a pretty good sci-fi movie

The movie hasn't aged well. I have it on dvd. There's shades of greatness there but it's brought down by the cheese factor ahnuld injects. He was miscast.

this is unnecessary . it's also way too soon.

Now they are remaking Arnold movies. First they remade The Running Man (The Condemned) & now Total Recall. Whats next Kindergarten Cop :wow:

Guess we can expect a remake of "Last Action Hero" with The Rock in a few years after this bit of news. :o

if we can get one that's closer to the book, I'm all for it.

"Remake" must the most common word in news from Hollywood these days...

wasnt "the condemned" a remake(or rip-off) of "battle royale"?? havent seen the condemned yet, though so i could be wrong... but yeah total recall was pretty cool, and i agree a remake just isnt needed.

It could be cool,CGI makes sci-fi movies even better.

yeah, it does.but isnt it a little soon for this to be remade, guys? kids nowadays will have no idea that it's a remake.. an example: my young cousin asked me if i knew about a cool new cartoon called teenage mutant ninja turtles..needless to say i laughed at him.

This is my surprised face.

I wouldn't mind seeing a remake of the running man. I thought the first one was lackluster. The only scene I liked in the whole movie was the fight between Jesse Ventura and Arnold. That was badass but, even that fight was too short. On the other hand Total Recall should not get a remake. At best it should have a special edition to get rid of some of the cheesiness and plotholes.

A remake would work just fine for me.
I mean, I totally enjoy Total Recall for what it is, but a remake with less cheese sprinkled on top, and closer to the source material wouldn't hurt one bit.

We can only hope.

I think remaking the movie is a bad idea. Re-adapting the book is not so bad. Doing either of those so soon after the original, very bad.

Oh come on now. The Burton/Schumacher adaptation series of Batman was not over until 1997. Batman Begins came in 2005, just 8 years later.
Total Recall was in 1990. And any adaptation will be out at earliest in 2008. That's 18 years. I don't see how it's too soon.

I gotta agree its been so long since it was made now is a decent time for them to make it. Granted they add a good director to it and give the effects a decent budget and we could have an interesting film. Arnold did an ok job with the role I wont complain, but with some one that can act with more depth than arnold it could be better.

totally agreed. it's a classic in the sense that it was one of the biggest and most memorable movies of the early 90's, but it's pretty outdated and corny if you compare it to today's standards. plus, it's a movie that could be explored a little bit further. i remember watching it a few months ago thinking "wow, it'd be awesome if they remade this with today's movie making standards"

plus, i don't know why people are saying it's too soon to make a remake. they need to write a whole new script so the soonest they could start production would be next year. if they start production next year the soonest they could release it would be 2009, but more likely 2010......which would be 20 years after the original.

I don't need a remake, but I'll take one to get this off my mind:
