Toukiden 2 is coming to North America and Europe in spring 2017, Koei Tecmo announced.

While the action RPG launched for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PS Vita in Japan, the publisher did not share which platforms the game would be localized for. It will disclose more information in early 2017.
Here’s an overview of the game, via Koei Tecmo:
The Toukiden series tells the tale of humanity’s last stand for survival against demonic, soul-devouring Oni. As revealed in Toukiden: The Age of Demons, humanity was protected for centuries by a secret clan of warriors, the Slayers, trained to dispose of the supernatural threat before it could consume the world. An event known as the Awakening caused rifts to appear in space and time – resurfacing places that had long disappeared from the world and unleashing swarms of Oni that relentlessly hunted humans.

Set shortly after the events detailed in Toukiden: Kiwami, Toukiden 2 introduces an all-new, captivating narrative featuring a compelling cast of companions and more devious demons to defeat. Players will step into the shoes of a Slayer tasked with saving humankind by carrying out special quests to reduce the monstrous hordes and liberate Oni-infested areas. Toukiden 2 boasts a vast and extensive open world full of danger and wonder, and takes the player deep into enemy territory. Slayers and Oni will battle it out in the Otherworld, a tormented battleground divided into six distinct Ages. Revisit the redesigned Ages of Yore, Grace, Honor, War, Peace and Chaos, each distinctively representing an era of Japanese history, and discover more about the Oni threat and your character’s unique role in its resolution!

Toukiden 2 for PS4, PS Vita, and PC launches on March 21 in North America, March 24 in Europe

Open-world sequel dated with a new trailer.

Toukiden-2-March-Dated.jpg

Toukiden 2
will launch for PlayStation 4, PS Vita, and PC via Steam on March 21 in North America and March 24 in Europe, Koei Tecmo announced.

The press release does not mention a digital-only release for any platform. Steam, of course, is digital-only within itself.

Pre-orders for Toukiden 2 include the “Tenko Costume” armor, allowing Slayers to dress up as their fluffy companions, and the “Sanada Masayuki,” “Sanada Noboyuki,” “Sarutobi Sasuke,” and “Chiku Rin In” Miitama to bolster the player’s skills and abilities. In North America, these are limited to Amazon, Best Buy, EB Canada, or GameStop. The European press release doesn’t mention any specific shops.

Here’s an overview of the game, via Koei Tecmo:
During an event known as the Awakening, when Oni ravaged the world and left it in ruins, a group of Slayers – defenders of mankind – set out to defend the city of Yokohama and drive back an attacking force of Oni. In the midst of their fierce battle, a giant demon emerged, and opened a portal that swallowed a lone Slayer. Ten years later, and with no memory of the past, that Slayer awakens in Mahoroba Village. Toukiden 2 puts players into the boots of this mysterious Slayer, who is accompanied by a unique cast of compelling characters: Hakase, a professor keen to learn the truth of the world, Tokitsugu, a Machina imbued with a human soul, Gwen, a young British Slayer and master of sword and shield, Benizuki, a kind-hearted fellow considered to be the strongest Slayer in town, and Homura, an ex-thief turned Slayer who wields a chain whip.

The ever-inventive Professor has constructed a unique device for Slayers which creates a physical manifestation of their thoughts: the Demon Hand. Using this strange apparatus, players can grab onto foes and throw themselves into the air to land blows from above, as well as execute evasive attacks to slam Oni into the ground. Not only is the Demon Hand useful in combat and it also aids in exploration of the game’s vast open landscape, the Otherworld. Areas may be blocked off or out of reach, but using an Oni Smash with the Demon Hand, players can destroy obstacles without ever leaving a trace, and otherwise inaccessible ledges are easily reached with an Oni Grapple.

Besides the beasts that threaten to eliminate humanity, the world of Toukiden 2 is also home to creatures that aid players on their quest. For example, materials for improving weapons and armor can be easily gathered by ordering hardworking Machina out to explore the Otherworld. By upgrading and repairing these robotic partners, Machina are able to bring back rarer and higher quantities of materials to create better equipment at the Blacksmith. In addition, the adorable Tenko companions make their return in Toukiden 2 and can be saved from peril while exploring the Otherworld. Once rescued, Tenko can be cared for, and once a Slayer’s bond with their Tenko is great enough, they can journey together in the Otherworld.

I saw a Toukiden in Best Buy for $15 I think. I was very tempted, but already have Monster Hunter on 3DS, and am STILL backlogged on games. At this rate Dragon Age 3 will still be unopened by next gen, lol.

Koei Tecmo has released new information, video, and screenshots of Toukiden 2 introducing the game’s story, new weapons, and performance-enhancing Mitama.
Get the information below.
Story
Located amid the tattered landscapes of Toukiden 2, the seemingly peaceful village of Mahoroba is riven by internal conflict. Despite being tasked with the protection of Kagura, the Shrine Maiden, the town’s two rival clans – the Samurai and the Imperial Guard – clash for dominance, jeopardizing the safety and the future of the sanctuary settlement. In an effort to defuse the tension, the Holy Mount has sent in its own force of Slayers, but their presence feels more like a threat than a path to a peaceful solution. Will the new Slayer who mysteriously appeared on the outskirts of Mahoroba unite the irate guardians, or will the devastating events that tore once-allied factions apart prevail and sound the end of humanity?
New Weapons: Sword & Shield and Chain Whip
Forced to confront both internal and external conflicts, the player’s battle skills and strategic acumen will be put to the ultimate test. Toukiden 2 offers a multitude of diverse weapons to suit any combat style, including swords, spears, knives, gauntlets, chain-sickles (kusarigama), bows, clubs, polearms, and rifles. Additionally, two series-first weapon types make their debut in Toukiden 2: the Sword & Shield, a combination offering a solid blend of offense and defense, and the Chain Whip, which allows for fast-paced maneuvers that can quickly tear apart Oni flesh. Each armament can be used for light and heavy attacks alike, and each offers special abilities that can be combined with the versatile Demon Hand to balance the scales of power when battling Oni.
Combat
Weapons can be personalized and enhanced with the assistance of the freed souls of fallen heroes, known as Mitama. Defeating larger foes will free Mitama from their Oni captors, and can then be used to empower the player’s weapon, armor, or the Demon Hand with boosts in Attack, Defense, Speed, Healing, and Control. New to the Toukiden series, the element of Control specializes in summoning Oni to fight for the player! Once summoned, subservient Oni will attack incoming foes as well as act as a decoy to help escape an enemy’s grasp. However, only three Mitama can be equipped at a time, so choosing the best combination during pre-battle preparation offers an important tactical edge, and helps balance the scales when facing foes as deadly as the Oni!
Toukiden 2 is due out physically and digitally for PlayStation 4 and PS Vita, and digitally for PC via Steam on March 21 in North America and March 24 in Europe.

Koei Tecmo has released new information, video, and screenshots of Toukiden 2 introducing the game’s online features.
Get the details below.
Toukiden 2 offers a rich online environment in which Slayers can team up to take on the ferocious demons known as Oni. Slayers will find mysterious Portal Stones scattered throughout the Otherworld, which, when touched, will transport them to the multiplayer lobby. Accepting missions at the Command Hub will allow up to four players to take on Oni throughout the Ages, granting them the upper-hand in battle with well-coordinated teamwork. Multiplayer features can be enjoyed on both PlayStation®4 and PlayStation®Vita system versions, with local ad-hoc network multiplayer available for PlayStation Vita users. Each Slayer can make themselves unique by utilizing the game’s vast character creation system, which boasts a wide variety of different visual styles never previously available in the Toukiden series.
Online multiplayer mode aside, the campaign experience has also been heavily enhanced for Toukiden 2. Apart from the main storyline missions delivered from the Holy Mount, players can explore an immense open world and encounter other Slayers for cooperative Joint Operations. By aiding those in need a variety of rewards become available in the form of weaponry, armour and new Mitama, as well the opportunity to form a party! Those playing offline can carry out Joint Operations by meeting Doppelgangers, the Ghost Data of their friends, which offer the same functionality as human companions.
While carrying out these operations in the Otherworld, Slayers may find it useful to exchange equipment to even the odds against tough opponents. Accessing the Reliquaries – containers for sacred relics – across the world will allow them to place items inside for retrieval by other Slayers. Donating items into a Reliquary not only aids fellow players, but returns an item of equal value! This new feature to the hunting-action genre allows Slayers to unite and aid each other in a way which was never previously possible.
The new additions in Toukiden 2 don’t stop there! The game’s boundless battlefield hosts a plethora of new Oni inspired by western lore. The Drakwing, a beast resembling a legendary dragon, the Canidaemon, a wolf-like creature which harnesses the power of wind and lighting in its tail, the Wingspawn, an Oni which breaths deadly poison which turns humans into demons and the Bruteclaw, a heavily armoured six-legged demon are only a few of the new enemies that plague the Ages.
Toukiden 2 is due out physically and digitally for PlayStation 4 and PS Vita, and digitally for PC via Steam on March 21 in North America and March 24 in Europe.

Toukiden 2’s Launch Trailer Shows Off Some Important NPCs. March 21, 2017 . 9:00am

Toukiden 2’s launch trailer makes sure it shows off the Professor, Tokitsugu, Benizuki, Homura, and Gwen.

12 comments Read >

Toukiden 2, the latest entry in a Monster Hunter-style action-RPG series that requires players to team up and work either with virtual or actual people to defeat an array of massive enemies, is launching today. To celebrate and generate hype, Koei Tecmo has released a cinematic launch trailer that lets people see the opening movie in its entirety. It also allows a more stylish look at some of the new characters who will join players’ Slayers on their journey.

The Toukiden 2 launch trailer begins with the Professor, the woman who finds and takes in your displaced Slayer, her assistant Tokitsugu, and Gwen looking out over a desert from the crow’s nest of a displaced boat. They eventually see the player character Slayer walking along, trailed by some sort of Oni. It’s then that an attack begins. In addition to Gwen hopping down to join the fray, fellow Slayers Benizuki and Homura appear to aid in the fight. While it isn’t an accurate depicture of how a real in-game fight goes, it does convey the same sense of camaraderie and urgency. It also gives you a look at people who will almost all join your party within about the first hour, as the Professor and Tokitsugu are the first characters you’ll meet and Benizuki and Homura are almost immediately at your side for your first missions.

The free-to-play “Free Alliances Version” of Toukiden 2 will launch for PlayStation 4 and PS Vita in North America on May 30 and Europe on May, publisher Koei Tecmo announced.

Here’s an overview of Toukiden 2: Free Alliances Version, via Koei Tecmo:
To help repel the cataclysmic forces of demons known as Oni, players of Toukiden 2: Free Alliances Version are able to take on Group Missions offered at the Command Center. There, players will visit various Ages to slay the monstrous beasts with up to four other companions from across the globe.

For players of the Free Alliances Version of Toukiden 2, each mission has a Stamina Cost associated, and before venturing out into the Ages the player must ensure they have the appropriate amount of Stamina required to participate.

Stamina is a key part of Toukiden 2: Free Alliances Version, as it allows players to explore and carry out missions in the surrounding areas of Maharoba Village. Each player starts with a Stamina Level of 3, and each unit of Stamina requires eight real-time hours to replenish. To dive straight back into the action without the wait, players can spend Gems purchasable at the Slayer’s Headquarters (via the PlayStation Store).

Not only can Gems recover Stamina to its maximum value, but they can also be used to increase the Stamina Level to a maximum of 8. Further upgrades are also possible to the Equipment and Material Chests which allow for an abundance of items to be stored, as well as the ability to draw Mitama Tickets.

These tickets are used to obtain the souls of fallen heroes which provide new combat possibilities when applied to armor and weaponry.

Players can also get a taste of the full title’s gripping narrative in Toukiden 2: Free Alliances Version by playing through the first chapter of the main campaign. Slayers who purchase the full version of Toukiden 2 are able to import their Save Data from the Free Alliances Version, allowing them to continue their adventures and experience the complete tale of the Awakening and humanity’s subsequent struggle for survival.
The full version of Toukiden 2 is available now for PlayStation 4, PS Vita, and PC.
