Witnesses have described their horror at seeing a tourist being eaten by a "gigantic" shark in South Africa's most popular holiday destination. Lloyd Skinner was pulled under the surf and dragged out to sea by the shark, believed to be a great white, off Fish Hoek beach in Cape Town. His diving goggles and a dark patch of blood were all that remained in the water. Witnesses described the terrifying scene. The shark was "longer than a minibus", Coppen told the Cape Times newspaper. He said: "It was this giant shadow heading to something colourful. Then it sort of came out the water and took this colourful lump and went off with it. You could see its whole jaw wrap around the thing which turned out to be a person."British visitor Phyllis McCartain told the same paper: "We saw the shark come back twice. It had the man's body in its mouth, and his arm was in the air. Then the sea was full of blood."

I knew Jaws was real!!!!

All of a sudden all my giant shark b-movies don't seem as cheesy anymore...

One of the witnesses said they were at chest deep water and he was "a little deeper." ???? Doesn't seem like the water would be deep enough for a Dinosaur-sized Shark.

if the height of the shark is 5'.... that's pretty damn huge...

If the only thing they're going on is witness accounts I think the size has probably been exaggerated a little bit. The shark couldn't be that big if the guy was only standing chest-deep.

Time to call in Giant Octopus.

The Thrilla in Manilla! :awesome:

If the size the animal is being construed from a view above the water, then it's likely the size estimated is rather inaccurate due to the way light refracts in water.

*hums Jaws theme*

Depends on what kind of Dino you're talking about:oldrazz:

as with all things i'm skeptical of..........pix or it didn't happen!

I'm shocked! Absolutely shocked! A fatal shark attack off of South Africa!? Preposterous! What's next, shark attacks in Australia?

If coconuts kill 4 million times more people every year than sharks, then why don't we ever hear reports about it?

Because. No one cares about coconuts.

Must...see...pictures...of...shark...

I don't understand "dinosuar-sized"?

Coconuts aren't able to be villified and those deaths aren't flashy. The media isn't for information, it's for entertainment. This story is a prime example of that, especially considering that it's not surprising that a man was eaten by a shark in one of the most shark infested areas of the world. It's not newsworthy.

A shark attack in this part of the world? I have no doubt that another one will happen within the next thirty days. Whether or not we'll hear about it is in question. We know about this one because (1) he's a tourist, and (2) the shark was reported to be of abnormal size.

Wait. Aren't sharks dinosaurs?

mis-leading title is mis-leading.

Dinosaur-sized dinosaur kills tourist.

:awesome:

Sharks are fish. Dinosaurs are dinosaurs. Also, the average dinosaur is smaller than a large shark.
