Revenge of the Fallen Transformers 2 at the Box Office

Opening Week/Weekend: $100+ Million

Domestic: $350 Million

Foreign: $400 Million

Worldwide: $750 Million

100+ opening weekend without a doubt

It's opening on a Wednesday now, so:

Wed: $55m (record Wednesday)
Thur: $27m (typically large Thursday drop)
Fri: $33m
Sat: $40m
Sun: $28m
------
$101m opening weekend
$183m 5-day

A good multiplier (maybe 4) should give it $410 - $440 million overall. It's going to be a monster.

We've all got a huge debate going on the boxofficemojo.com forums. These are my predictions, which seem to be about what most people seem to think. It's going to be huge, no doubt about it.

Yas knows his stuff so that's probably around what we can expect.

Hehe, thanks Flawless. Haven't seen you around much. Still hanging out in the Iron Man BO thread?

And what are you predicting for ROTF?

I think 180 Million or So for the opening weekend and about 450 million Domestic and 600 Million Worldwide

I'm going to say +400 million domestic and over 1 billion worldwide.

I've actually spent the most of my time in the Superman forum.

I was thinking $400 mil + as well.

Those were some good times watching those TDK numbers come in.

What kind of numbers would Transformers have to pull in to be considered a disappointment? I'm gonna say anything below 300 million domestic and sub 700 million worldwide would be considered bad.

Also what films released this year have a chance of besting Transformers 2 at the box office? The only one that I see that might have a chance is Avatar, which I'm looking forward to the most.

It looks as though this movie is going to be "THE" movie this summer, hype wise, at least that's the mood I'm picking up on. People are going to be thirsty for exactly this type of movie this summer I'm thinking and it will be huge.

Depends if you're talking Domestic or Worldwide gross. Can't forget about Half-Blood Prince in that discussion. Nothing is touching that movie overseas based on the history of those films.

Harry Potter has yet to break a billion worldwide. I think Transformers 2 has a shot but most likely it will finish below 900 million. I'm going to say Avatar is the dark horse this year. My guess is that film will probably make over a billion worldwide.

Ah, cool. Well I'll probably see you in here as ROTF approaches theaters. I'll be here everyday. :yay:

Those TDK numbers were crazy. ROTF will have some insane numbers as well. $400+ mill is going to be tons of fun to follow the whole way through.

No way is it going to be The Dark Knight but I can see maybe 400 million if not a bit more. No more that 450 million though.

How about its budget?
The first was 150 million, wasn't it?
Does anybody know what is ROTF's budget?

I don't want to seem blasphemous by stating this question but does anyone think ROTF might surpass TDK in total Worldwide BO earnings? Or for that matter can it surpass TDK's opening weekend numbers?

It can't surpass TDK's OW numbers because it opens on a Wednesday

Yeah it has no shot at the OW record now. That much is certain. WW I can't see it making $1 billion either. Maybe somewhere in the $800+ million range.

I think the first movie despite having some obvious flaws satisfied on a baisc primal fun level. I wrote this thing off as soon as it had Bay attached, but I have to admitt his cheasy bravado & passion, for bad one lines mixed with action make this work

The rumored budget is 200 million

Before accepting his Vanguard Award for Excellence in Filmmaking, Michael Bay stopped at the ShoWest press room to answer a few questions about the filmmaking process for Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen. In the session Bay states that there will be no 3-D for Transformers 3. Also he states he will commit to Transformers 3 if Revenge Of The Fallen does well. In addition he describes some of the advancements of the CGI compared to the first film. Lastly Bay states that the movie came in about $4 million under budget, which allowed for more expenses for better special effects. You can view a video of the entire session on Collider.com.

True. Although that PG rating definately could help :cwink:. As it stands till POtter opens , TF pretty has the market to itself.

I'll say $80mil first week....$170mil overall....And $240mil overall including overseas.....Not a fan of the first movie but I think unfortunately many will be duped again.....

If this movie is any good it will easily top the first one and we know the numbers for those.
