Transformers Transformers = Panacea for the 80's Cartoon Revival

Ah....MASK!!!

Thank you for the memories!!!

Still, MASK is pretty much a transformers wannabe...the cars just have badass weapons....

It's possible, but GI JOE was the whole reason Transformers got made in the first place.

It was dropped from development because of the whole Iraq thing and the public souring on the military.

Of course, $$$$ speaks volumes, so if TF makes a mint, it's a lock for sure :)

I'd say Neon Genesis would get a good kick into gear as well after languishing in developmental hell for so long.

So long as we don't have any Turbo Teen films, it'll be cool :)

I actually like the new He-Man cartoon that appeared on Cartoon Network not long ago. It had a great storyline, showed everyones origin (including how Skeletor lost his face...), and I wouldn't mind that premise. Cept I don't want some punk *****e actor like Zachary Thomas Taylor or Blake Lame Name or some other ass young teeny bopper kid playing Prince Adam, even though he is rather flamboyant.

That movie has a lot of potential, with the it's dark tones and characters. Plus I wanna see Ram Man wreck some ****.

One big problem with this 80's Revival is that a lot of the properties, such as Thundercats and Voltron somewhat, should have a new show on TV to rally new fans.

Could they get away with just catering to the 24-32 age group that watched when the shows originally aired?

That toon seemed to have been made with sooo much love. I mean, right down to the costumes there was serious iconic respect for the original characters. Problem, from what I remember watching it, is that they kinda ran out of stories real quick. I loved the animation... but even I thought the stories got lame real quick.

Another problem is that so many of them were fantastical... almost surreal. Trippy even. I mean, Thundercats: Third Earth, Mum-Ra? He-Man: Eternia?..... Actually I do think it WOULD work.... but, they'd have to take a fable-esque approach like Neverending Story or something like that. I just can't see those stories being made into grown-up, grounded in reality stuff. I dunno.

Hey. They made Middle Earth come to life so I thinks they can do anything.

Eternia could be the equivalent to whereever they shot Narnia, or maybe Ireland.

Third Earth...dunno how it looked but I imagine....rocky? Like around volcanic areas? I dunno.

Of course they will have to updated things, but I am excited at a serious He-man movie.

Imagine He-Man beheading Beast Man like Aragorn did to Lurtz, the Uruk-hai leader. Man oh man.

The only film I would TRULY like to see made...and made well, is Robotech.

Here here! War in Space. Strong Anti-war sentinment through much of the show with Lynn Kyle. Rick and Lisa:heart: and Minmei as a love triangle. It's got all the makings of a film...and can practically just be divided up into sequels.

Now that goes along with WETA Digital making Evangelion, someone making a good Gundam movie. Maybe someone will see that huge fudgin' robots blowing sheet up is something really cool to do, make, and show.

This is the kind of thing I am talking about.

Don't remember where I read it about it (some interview with the screenwriters?) but the Voltron script placed them in post-Apocalyptic Earth- like MadMax or something. Some of it sounded intriguing... but I got the feeling it would end up being budgeted and directed like that Dungeons and Dragons movie from a few years ago... or Eragon. Something sorta disposable.

One cool thing is that it kinda referenced both Voltron teams (Lion and the vehicle one... with the latter team I think being in the movie but not the robot as of yet). Pretty cool in my book.
Perhaps. That script sounds interesting at least. I'm surprised though that these movies aren't willing to do "another time and place" settings like they did in Star Wars and LOTR, it seems to me everything has to got to be on Earth these days.

 drool

Who would you pick for her?

Obviously Kate Beckinsale. She makes movies for nerds and eats up being drooled about.

Show me the stars.

Giggity Giggity! OH!

 drool

Who would you pick for her?
Maybe Zhang Ziyi

I mean the tough thing is for Rick, Lisa and Minmei you'd have to get actors actresses all around my age (20-23). Because you want them to be young, because in essence Robotech is a coming of age story. I mean Rick ages from like 17 to 21 or something in the story. Minmei, I don't know any good Chinese actresses that are young...do you? My big up in the air is Lisa Hayes. Because you want her to be young, but able to pull off being older than she is and then also needs to be really attractive but not all the time....

I would say
Bryce Dallas Howard (Spider-Man 3) for Lisa Hayes
Emile Hirsch (Girl Next Door) for Rick Hunter
Seth Rogan (Knocked Up) for Ben Dixon
Sam Huntington (Superman Returns) for Max Sterling
Zhang Ziyi (Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon) for Lynn Minmei (Undecided)
Chris Evans (Fantastic Four 1 and 2) for Roy Focker

Brice Dallas Howard is beat and a fat moose. Bleh. Dunno what people see in her.

Zhanga Ziyi is incredibly smoking.

Zhang Ziyi :heart:drool:heart:

I'd take her over Megain ANY day.

This is Lisa Hayes...I don't know exactly who I'd cast as her.

She is suppose to be 20 or something...so I don't know who I'd cast as her.

Actually Kate Beckinsale would be good aside from being way too old to play someone that young at this point.

If they can make a GI Joe movie that feels and looks like Black Hawk Down then I'm all for it

but it'll never happen...they'll cast Van Damme as Duke.

I heard Mark Whalberg was an option from joblo.com

They actually released the "premise" for a He-Man movie already.

It's a huge ******* in the making.

Direct me to the link and then take the children up stairs. I don't want them to see this.

Take note of "ravaging the world with technology"... while a huge part of the appeal of MOTU has always been the "mixed world" aspect of magic and technology co-existing in a natural way. Also, I seem to recall another source stating that He-Man is going to be a present-day earthman (possibly soldier) who gets to Eternia through some sort of portal.

Well at least it's not as bad as what WB is doing to Thundercats.

Oh damn, what are they doing to the Thundercats?
Here is a photo

Here is a Synopsis
Ain't It Cool News said:
WB animation is remaking the Thundercats as an animated TV series.
The animation style is whimsical, Americanized-anime, along the lines of Teen Titans.
The setting is modern-day Earth, in a major city (possibly LA)
The Thundercats are all teenagers.
Their leader is Snarf (!) who is now a mystic with a "third" eye.
Each of the Thundercats has a weapon with an "Eye of Thunderra" and transformative powers (not just Lion-O)
When they aren't fighting evil, the Thundercats play together as a rock band. That's not a typo, or a joke. They are rockin' cats in their present form.
Mum-Ra now has wings.
And I bet he laughs a bit more than he used to =P
Developing...
