Stephen Sommers and Chris Columbus don't get CGI. in their movies, the CGI is always cartoony.

With ILM and WETA it's more about the fact that they their creations have made a huge impact on the audience. Lately look at their work.
WETA obviously has the LOTR movies , King Kong and of course Avatar.
ILN regained their "lost" status with their work on the POTC sequels and afterwards getting the photorealism right with Transformers and Iron Man.

And fanboys always believe in absolutes :oldrazz:
Hence why they always focus on the positive things of ILM and WETA and always forget the mediocre or outright bad stuff that ILM and WETA also created. ILM was responsible for the "genius " VFX shots of Mummy Returns and Van Helsing. And Weta did also work on the 2nd Fantastic Four movie or I,ROBOT. And The Day the Earth Stood Still & Eragon.

And after the genius work Domain did on Benamin Button , i can't believe they sunk so low with GI Joe. Truly craptastic VFX.

I fully believe that the directors are the ones who can make a movie's VFX excellent. You can give Spielberg ILM and he'll create the tripods of War Of The Worlds. You give Stephen Sommers ILM and he'll give you Van Helsing.
Kosinski fall the former category. He "gets" VFX and i'm sure that he'll definately deliver with Tron .
what is wrong with the effects in I Robot. the translucence effect on the robot was amazing. :hehe:

It's about consistency IMO. I'm not saying that every VFX shot should be something groundbreaking like Gollum or King Kong because you need to the money , tech and time to create such characters.
But you're delivering the majority of the shots for a big budget movie , you'd expect the vfx to certainly be on par with the previous movies. Don't make it look like something that any other "lesser" studio can deliver.
The work I,ROBOT was okay but not as good as what WETA delivered with the LOTR movies.

Look at ILM
POTC 2 ( 2006) , POTC 3 ( 2007) & TF ( 2007) , Iron Man ( 2008) & Indy 4 ( 2008) , Avatar (2009) & Terminator Salvation ( 2009) and Potter ( 2009).
The work in all those movies was consistant.

That's why i can't believe that DD would go from Button to GI Joe .

One of the problems with Sony Imageworks (who did I Robot) is that their characters look great upclose (I, Robot, Dr. Manhatten in Watchmen, Beowulf) but when they're afar (or in a wideshot) they look like video game characters. I don't know if it's the resolution or not, but you lose the sense that they're real when the camera is far from them.

*snip*

And Weta did also work on the 2nd Fantastic Four movie
More specifically, Weta were employed to render the Silver Surfer. It's unusual to find this effort being labelled "mediocre or outright bad". :oldrazz:

hey guys thanks for pics of the building used as the arcade shots from the original film. Glad it does look pretty simular and all that. if its not shot in the same place they did great work to get it dam close to it.

so i guess the teaser will start with the main character driving with hes bike to the house and then entering inside?

Yes all these shots are from the trailer.

Glad all the love Tron is getting.

I have a feeling Disney is really happy with the work in Legacy. Otherwise they wouldn't be pushing this animated television show and amusement park idea.

Getting more excited about this movie. All the pictures being released before the trailer have been incredible.

As am I.

Hopefully somewhere along the way, a load of Tron mobile themes and wallpapers get released to get me in the mood futher.

Something tells me that a game grid theme would look awesome on my mobile.

yea its cool news to see disney wanting to market and have the tron name out there for awhile. i hope this cgi/animated show will do well. Same goes for the film so we get some more tron!!

The idea of an animated series definitely has me pumped.
