Now, this isn't anything spectacular. I'm talking the likes of the Beano and the Dandy.

But I remember a series when I was younger, it may have been a very short lived running series, of comics about a captain or commander in a science fiction story. He had slime or slimes as his sidekicks, amongst other characters. I recall one story may have been on a train and much like the Usborne Puzzle Adventure books, I recall you had a puzzle to solve on each page as well.

The first free gift I remember getting was one of these slimes in a tub.

I also remember it had other stories in the same issue. One was about time travel. A scientist and his sidekick went through different times, and I recall a Gladiator story.

But for the life of me, I can not find any information about this series on the internet at all, and I don't have any copies of it left myself.

For what it was, at the time, it was very, very good. I'd love to track down at least one issue of it, or know the name, just so I know I'm not crazy and it did exist.

Is this a comic series or a cartoon strip?

I'd say it was more like a series. Think The Beano and The Dandy. It was released weekly, sometimes with that free gift slapped on the front, generally made for kids. I think it contained two or three stories. So you'd get say, seven pages of one story, seven pages of another and seven pages of the third, and the next week might be a continuation of those stories, or a new story.

But for the life of me, I can't remember as many details as I would like to, or the names of the stories/strips. All I do remember is that for the most part, there was a little science fiction in there with the time travel, and the fact the first story in the comic was set in the future.

It was a lot like those Usborne Puzzle Adventures, like I said. You'd read a page, and at the end of the page (or half way through) you'd have a puzzle to solve, and then you'd move on to the next page. Whether this was a British series only, or it was also released in the U.S, I don't know. I think it was very short lived though, because I did get them weekly as a kid, but I remember it just seemed to stop being stocked.

By the way - When I think of a cartoon strip, I think of a short strip in a newspaper. So are we thinking of the same thing?

This was as thick as a Beano or Dandy, or a little thicker, made for kids, with two or three stories in it each week, and I'm 99% sure they were the same three, same characters, just a different adventure each week.
