This is just funny, though a ridiculous overreach of the TSA (again). Probably one of them wanted to keep it as a souvenir. :whatever:

North Texas resident and "Star Wars" Chewbacca actor Peter Mayhew had a dust-up with Transportation Security Administration agents in Denver when they attempted to confiscate his light saber-shaped cane.

Mayhew was returning to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport from an appearance at Denver Comic Con early this week when TSA agents refused to let Chewie board his plane with one of a kind cane.

The 7-foot, 2-inch tall actor sat in a wheelchair at the airport as he pleaded with the agents and explained that he needed the cane to walk.

But it was only after the giant actor posted pics of the incident on his official Twitter account @thewookie[e]roars that the agents relented and let him return to north Texas with his light saber cane.

Magic words to TSA are not "please" or "thank you".. It's "Twitter".. cane released to go home.. twitter.com/TheWookieeRoar…

Mayhew lives in Boyd, 35 miles northwest of Fort Worth. The tall Texas resident tweeted about his need for the cane.

thewookieeroars said:
Giant man need giant cane.. small cane snap like toothpick.... besides.. my light saber cane is just cool.. I would miss it..

After landing at DFW, Mayhew tweeted a thanks to Fort Worth-based American Airlines.

In Dallas. Thank you to @americanair for checking on me. Problem was all @tsa. I'm a million-miler on American and they are a class act.

The canesaber in dispute:

The force is strong with this one.

I guess Hyperspace travel is too pricey these days.

Well, the lightsabre is a deadly weapon, though an elegant one, for a more civilized age.

I'm missing TSA's (stated) reasoning for trying to confiscate it...

There was no official explanation I saw either but my guess is to prevent someone getting a beat down for daring to mess with a Wookiee in a confined space like the cabin of an airplane. I still think someone wanted to keep it for themselves unofficially.

Just saw another report saying that they thought the cane was "too heavy" and therefor suspicious.

The thing is made out of solid acrylic - of COURSE it's heavy. It's also see through - he's not hiding a blow dart or drugs in there.

TSA is ridiculous. They all need to be fired.

I suppose the TSA realized It's not wise to upset a Wookie.

I can understand that concern but would they have done the same had this been merely a simple wooden cane?
