Drama Tulsa King with Slylvester Stallone...

I don’t think there’s anyone I really wanna follow into their own show lol

The appeal of this is Stallone as a gangster in a small town. It’s his interactions with the other characters.

Exactly, it's a Stallone show - not an ensemble of other actors who are all in the same league as him, no disrespect to them. He carries the show. And whilst it's a great show, I'm not sure there's enough mileage there for a spin-off already, Season 2 hasn't even aired yet.

This is barely a TV show at this point. Scene's just happen, there's no rhyme or reason or dramatic tension or stakes. It's a lot like the later seasons of Yellowstone, but without the interesting characters. Garrett Hedlund even has several long sequences of just him singing (and he's not that good).

For the most part I still enjoy the show, mainly because of Stallone, but I get what you mean. The way the scenes are shot and delivered are strange; sometimes very short, almost comedic scenes which may have little or no bearing on the main flow of the story, and usually with Stallone making a pun or grinning at the end. It reminds me a bit of the way 90s sitcoms were often shot only without the drum roll or the little musical jingle as the scene ends. The showrunners may feel it's giving Tulsa King its own unique feel and style, but as you say, it comes at the expense of tension and leads to an inconsistency in the overall tone.

I wonder how much of that is because Terrence Winter (the showrunner) left after season one over creative differences with Taylor Sheridan (the creator) and then came back a year later. I wonder how much reworking they had to do to get the scripts into shape, and how much they had to compromise just to get things filmed in time.

It just feels like the whole New York mob storyline with Dickie is an afterthought, the new villains weren't introduced very well and the interactions between the cast aren't particularly interesting. It's become more of a vibe and hang-out show, and I expected better from a writer that worked on The Sopranos and wrote The Wolf of Wall Street.

Watched the last 2 eps of Season 2 the other night. It wrapped things up well, though -

I wasn't sure about Chickie's fate. It came very suddenly so maybe they were going for shock factor, but he's also been there since ep1 so it felt a little rushed in a way - the character hasn't really had a lot to do for the last few episodes, but rolls into Tulsa and suddenly he's just offed?

The last scenes of Manfredi being taken away were a little reminiscent of the S1 finale, though obviously there's a different scenario occurring here. Will be interesting to see where it goes. I assume that's FBI or similar and they want him working for them.

It pains me to say this, but I cannot stomach Stallone as an human being any longer.

The Rocky franchise is still probably my favorite movie franchise of all time, but beyond that, I am finished with him.

Ironically, Creed 3 was a shot in the arm because it moved the franchise away from him a bit. Personally, I loved that film and think that it proves that the franchise is bigger than Sly, which is something I never thought could be possible.

I also think that he showed his true colors with his comments about Creed 3. I had originally chalked his complaints about “the tone” to being justifiable sour grapes about the franchise being pulled away from him. But now I have to wonder whether there might be some racial undertones there.

I think you’re reading too much into this. He gave Ryan Coogler his shot. His issue has and always has been with Irwin Winkler. You can obviously be done with him for other reasons but don’t make up stuff that isn’t there with “racial undertones”, come on.

I think that you misread, because I wasn’t accusing him of anything.

I’m just saying that given the company he keeps nowadays, I am scrutinizing what he said in the past a little more closely.

Personally I couldn't give a hoot what company he keeps. If we are going to judge actors, musicians and other celebs by the company they keep or the antics they partake in, there's not going to be a lot of material left for us to watch or listen to as many of them - right leaning or left leaning - have been involved in some controversy or another over the years, or hung out with dubious people.

Would be nice to keep politics out of this thread, there are plenty of others for it.

Oh of course Musk doesnt get Demolition Man...i did not expect anything else from him.

Sorry guys. I just am disappointed in Sly’s recent life choices and thought this was an appropriate venue to discuss. But I don’t want to hijack or distract conversations, so…

To other threads. :)

Good to see Stallone still has drawing power even as he nears 80. He's pretty much the only really big name in the cast (no disrespect to the other actors, who are fantastic, but I mean in the sense of being a true Hollywood A-lister at points in his life).
