Every time its starts to rain my parents **** them selfs over the computer. They're worried that lightning will strike and fry the computer like a hot dog.
I see it as being over causious, am I currect? or should I really fear the computer blowing up well plugged in during a storm?

My RAM got fried one time during a storm. If you get enough of an electrical charge it can destroy the computer. Not to the point where it will explode, but ruin the processor, motherboard RAM and quite possibly ruin the hard drive. Get a UPS/big ass surge protector to help electrical interference.

Realistically...Yes its possible.

I have multiple computers and never turn them off.
Its possible you could get hit with a jolt...but its rare.

When its thundering i do turn off/ unplug anything that goes to my pc, when i was and dial up my modem got fried in a thunder storm so now i unplug it from everything :) i also have surge protectors on most of my stuff.

But if its just raining fook it, i just wait until i hear a clap. Technicaly you should unplug your tv ariel thats the thing mostly to get hit. Some guy near to me had his house burn down because lightning came out of his tv

During a thunderstorm, unplug your computer and use a laptop with wifi.
