A BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER MOVIE?! :wow:

TWILIGHT has either done us a major service or disservice, depending how you look at it. Courtesy of the success of Summit Entertainment's teen vampire drama, it looks like a brand new BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER movie could be in the works, according to a newspaper in Australia (hard to consider it a credible source, although they have broke a few big pieces of news in the past). Read on for the news and feel free to chime in on the story - is horror heading in the wrong direction?

Our good friends over at Moviehole.net discovered the following in the Herald-Sun Newspaper:

"The monster success of girly vampire pic Twilight at the US Box office last weekend could kick open the door for a big-screen return of Joss Whedon’s much-loved Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Rumours are circulating in Hollywood that Whedon has a feature-film script based on his hit TV series ready to roll as soon as a studio is prepared to commit. The Buffy concept was first unveiled as a movie in 1992 with long-forgotten Kristy Swanson in the title role."

We'll keep you posted if anything new develops...

Now this could simply be fan spec run ramprant or bad reporting. But, if it is true, would you want a Buffy film? What would it cover? Would the season 8 comics still count as cannon? Discuss.

They'd never get the cast together for it and Whedon wouldn't do it without the cast. I doubt Gellar would ever say yes either. She seems to see it as beneath her. Plus I'm not sure Whedon would want to work with her again. She was apparently very difficult towards the end.

I think you're right about her attitude, but she seems to have had a lot of issues getting decent work since Buffy. Even Borneanz now has another steady TV gig. She may look at it as a way of getting her career in high profile.

But I'm not even sure I would want a movie. What new things are there to discover about the slayers?

I think any kind of movie would have to be a pre-Buffy slayer spin off or a re-cast set within a different continuity or between seasons or something. Gellar-less is the only way I can see this going, because as I explained in my edit, I don't think Whedon would want to work with her.

Dawn the Vampire Key. Honestly, what is Michelle Trachtenberg doing right now, aside from still looking awkwardly geeky?

I would love to see this happen, and really besides Alyson and David, what are the others doing that can keep them from this? Yeah James Marsters (if spike would be in it) is in Smallville, but that hasn't stopped him playing Piccolo has it. And if Sarah needs to feel that any of her past work is beneath her, it's definitely that scooby doo crap.

P.S: I think an Angel film would be a little more interesting, but I'd still be game for this.

I never understand these comparisons to Buffy whenever Twilight is brought up. The similarities are extremely superficial. Most of the Twilight characters are *****es.

Gellar has stated numerous times that she would be for a Buffy movie. In fact it was around the time the show ended that she stated she was only interested in continuing Buffy as a movie. David Boreanaz has also shared that sentiment. The rumors about her being difficult are a bit unfair. I think she'd had problems with the shows last two seasons and that's why she decided to walk away.

And they all seemed to get along well at the Paley Festival.

I would be more interested in an Angel movie than a Buffy movie anyways.

a buffy movie would annihilate twilights crapness...

I highly, highly, highly doubt this will ever come to fruition, as much as I would love it. I had a dream once about the cast coming back to do more episodes. I was soo pissed when I woke up and realized it was a dream.

^^^ I feel your pain.

I would love it to happen but doubt it will, especially since there's been more credible sources saying Joss has plans for a Season 9 with Dark Horse.

Say it did though, I'd want Buffy, Giles, Willow, Xander, Angel and Spike as the main characters; with anyone else being on the peripheral.

I've always loved the notion seeing Buffy on the big screen again, but like the posts above, Season 9 seems to be his primary focus at the moment and that's not even considering DOLLHOUSE and its on and off again production status.

I highly doupt this will be made, not because Joss and crew wouldn't want to do it. But because FOX would want it changed to appel more towards the same Teen age group.
A reboot most likely.

I believe Buffy has had her time to shine. Angel would be the more interesting film due to the limitless possibilities of Angel Investigations continuing their quest to fight evil in Hell(literally).

Don't these filmmakers understand that it's only going to be cheesier than the series that inspired it?
