Unclassified documents show that in 1961, just around when Dr Strangelove was hitting theaters, a B-52 with two nukes broke apart above a North Carolina city of 40,000 people. One nuke had its last fail-safe out of three kick in after its parachute opened. The other nuke had ALL its fail-safes …. uh, fail… its parachute did NOT open and the only reason it didn't detonate was because it had a faulty fuse and wires didn't cross properly. It was literally dumb luck that North Carolina barbecue didn't mean something much darker. *

(* Dear sensitive people-Joke is in good taste because it thankfully didn't happen :o)

The tobacco industry would have been decimated, also my favorite pickle brand Mt. Olive would be gone

Cracked mentioned this in one of their articles last year. Pretty crazy stuff.

I wonder if I still would have been born. I mean, my family didn't live in North Carolina, but still.

How ironic would it have been for a country to kill it's own people with it's own weapons by mistake

Considering it is the only country to ever use them in war against people then the irony of killing it's own people would be high indeed.

So these megaton bombs had 300 times the power of the Hiroshima bomb. It almost certainly would have decimated both Carolinas and sent fall-out up and down the east coast.

It'd be like Kingdom Come all over again.

Not to mention what it would have done to the economy.

Probably a number of our parents would have been indirectly affected if not directly, and some of us posting in this thread wouldn't even have been born.

In South Carolina, we got this here Savannah River Site, which holds materials for nuclear weapons. If dat thang go boom, no mo french fried potaters for a lot of folk round these parts, bo.
