Please not done in the DCAU New 52 style. Tim Sale doesn’t deserve that.

Aapparently, this is supposed to be like Killing Joke in not being connected to that, which makes me happy.

I think Joker could be either Troy Baker or David Dastmalchian.

Naya actually strikes me as having a great voice for Catwoman. I'm into it.

Very VERY curious to see how the art style translates to animation. It supposedly being standalone is promising, but Sale's art seems like it would be damn hard to animate.

So this is our first scoop for the 2020 DC DTVs, huh? Because 2019 is covered, and that's 4 movies instead of the normal 3. And we'll hear more during SDCC this year. If they're continuing having 4 instead of 3, this will be movies 1 & 2, and I wonder what the others are.

Also, what if its a two parter because of Dark Victory and a little of Catwoman: When in Rome?

    Huh?

Just meant that it’s supposed to stand apart from the New 52 style most films have had recently.

Oh okay, cool. Its just that I didn't understand what you said.

Question: little off topic but since you're here and you said that, is this the case with Batman: Hush or do you not know?

Hush is apart of the movies in that New 52 style and Jason O’ Mara reprising Batman again. Not too excited about that.

Because I was thinking about that recently, and realized that unless the story was different but still based on the Hush stories, it coudn't be the same one from the comics because of Jason Todd and Jason doesn't exist in the New 52 animated universe. Its alot like DCAU and the DCUA pre/post-52: Grayson was the first Robin, but the second/present Robin is the one currently in the comics at the time of production, or for that story only.

Not to get too ahead of myself, but I hope this is a success and we get a 2 part Dark Victory too. Those two stories are the main ones I’ve wanted to see ever since this animated movie universe began.

This will be amazing if they do it in Tim Sale’s style. His art has a nice distinct visual style and could shake things up a bit and make this stand out a bit more compared to the other films. Especially after Spiderverse doing well, one can hope the DC side could be inspired to take a break from the typical style they often go with.

If it’s in the DC DTV style... not so much. I’ll be so disappointed if they do that as if this does well, theres Dark Victory, When In Rome and the odds and ends that could be adapted after.

You're in luck, as this is supposed to stand apart from that style.

I'm just curious how much the art style will be adjusted during the process of adapting it to animation. It's not like Cooke's New Frontier art or Ed McGuinness' work on Superman/Batman where you can essentially lift it from the page with minimal tinkering. Sale's art is almost painterly. It would be a radical departure if they were 100% faithful to the book. I'd be all for it.

Tim Sale’s work is not painterly. Maybe for Catwoman When In Rome and his Marvel Books But the character work in Long Halloween is pretty adaptable for animation. It has spotted blacks and ink lines which aren’t too hard to do.

Yeah I feel like Sale's style is comparable to Timm's. It'll be a smooth transition to animation I think.

Please please please emulate the books art style for the animation. Dont go cheap like the killing joke, dont do the anime lite style that they've been using.

What DC did in Batman Ninja is also an excellent example of taking things further visually. I'm all for doing something like that, except do it in a way, in this instance, that compliments the sentimentality of the film noir, Kirby-Steranko-inspired style of Tim Sale, instead of Eastern- Anime sentimentality.

Totally. It's like Timm's style with some Jim Steranko-like line and shadow-use.

Also, while on the subject of Bruce Timm, I feel like with Batman:TLH, with its noir, whodunnit structure, could be the best Batman film of its kind since Batman: Mask of The Phantasm.
