Typhoon Haiyan hits Philippines

I read about it early this morning. It's gusting 235 mph winds. That's scary.

Ya this thing is a beast, I'm from FL so I've been through my fair share of hurricanes but this thing is like nothing I've seen. I remember the damage that was done by Andrew and this looks to be much worse

The biggest typhoon of the year said the French news.
It reminds me of the hurricane view from space from The Day After Tomorrow but its' real.

I've been reading it's the strongest in recorded history.

That's actually scary. Holy crap.

I've been reading it's the strongest in recorded history.

so far, way things going we might see a stronger one in the future :(

saw on the news they have been 1200 deaths so far :(

Damn, there was ample warning, yet we knew it was too little too late for those already in the path that didn't have the means to get out of the area. Countries will definitely be lining up to provide aid once it's clear.

We have a professional meteorologist on another forum I'm on - he fears that the death toll will be between 5,000 and 10,000 by the time it's all said and done. :csad:

And that radar image is like the f***ing eye of Sauron.

Ya this breaks my heart, we all could see this coming and yet so many had nowhere to go or the means with which to get there. At least 10,000 dead is horrific and that number will only get larger I fear. It's very sad that all of our developed countries are having this kind of impact on countries that are just finding their footing. I've already donated to a relief fund but wishing I could do more. My thoughts go out to all the families affected by this beast

Losing her job in 5...4...3...
Eh people are claiming she isn't even really a teacher. But even so, I'd guess she's losing whatever she's got.

My heart goes out to all the people affected by this tragedy.

I read a report which stated "it's like the end of the world." I imagine it would most definitely feel that way. What a massive typhoon. Once these things set in, you can do absolutely nothing but pray.

I hate think of a natural disaster hitting somewhere where I know people, but I guess that is a natural fact of life.

Thank You.

I saw on the news this morning that they are estimating over 10,000 dead in one town. Crazy how big of a tragedy this is

My god, i cant even imagine the devastation, and i live in the Caribbean, so i've seen my share of hurricanes. My thoughts and prayers go out to Philippines. The death toll alone is heartbreaking :csad:. And having to deal with such a massive loss in the middle of all kinds of shortages of power, food, etc is even more difficult.
