So I really need to improve my typing speed if I'm going to compete in the job market. I'm averaging 57-63 wpm and I need it to be above 70 to get a shot at these clerical jobs. What's everyone else's typing speed here?

Mine has been never above 28 wpm (with no errors) but I have never been in a job that required that much in 1st place

Don't like to boast, but...

And that was with my eyes closed!

My speed on my cellphone is much worse. I'm averaging 20 wpm.

Around 40-45, but I suck at numbers. I never needed to type fast, but, being in computer networking and working on router/switch configurations, I needed a basic level of typing. I took typing, home economics, and dance in HS because I could hang out with women without having a lot of guys around. :funny:

If you need to improve your speed, make sure you have an ergonomically correct station and practice, practice, practice.

It has been over 70 but not normally. I don't ever bother to type that quickly unless I really have to.

I used "Letter Invaders" as a fun way to increase my speed.

I learned typing in school (back in the Paleolithic era). And I don't think I got above 35-40 wpm.

Recently, I did one of those online tests and was surprised to score ~75 wpm. But the sample paragraph wasn't too long and I was concentrating. If I had to do an entire manuscript, I expect my average speed would be much lower.

Ohhhhh, "Dancing with Cali". Can we make it happen?

Two left feet that are both on backwards, but I graciously accepted help from my classmates.

EDIT: Oh yeah, after school listening to music and dancing is a great way to get in fights and (often) beat up if you're in HS.

Incidentally... There was (and to some extent still is) an active debate as to whether there should be two spaces or one after the period that ends a sentence. Most style guides say one, but there are those who adhere to the Religion of Two Spaces.

Alas, the question is often moot as many text programs (like on SuperHero Hype) automatically remove the extra space.

:cwink:

They didn't appreciate your hands over their girls, maybe (?) :p

If typing on a computer keyboard, try a mechanical keyboard, it can improve the speed a bit.

Linus from LTT had a score of about 75 wpm and I was shocked and then he pulls off 98wpm. :shock

He was typing with a Razor keyboard with Cherry MX switches and comparing them to typewriter retro style keyboards.

My typing speed is around 35-37 wpm. I probably would be faster if it weren’t for my left side due to Cerebral Palsy.

Just my opinion, but if you want a good mech keyboard, don't buy from Razer.
Edit: they are much better brands but they're all expensive anyway.
Myself, I use a Filco Majestic 2 brown switch, 10 years and never failed (I only changed the keycaps).

Yeah.....being used to your keyboard is ultra important. I tried using an ergo keyboard and it was a disaster.
You just might be faster than you think you are. Hope everything works out and bet it does.

alamande left with the old left hand back to your partner right and left grand whirl em high and whirl em low and you keep on whirlin those calicos with your right hand over and left hand under there's your gal now swing like thunder.

That took me about 45 seconds, but I don't remember if I got all the square dance words right.:funny:

I'm extremely slow. I'm impressed with my 10 year old, puts me to shame.

That's really impressive. And no mistakes.

How are you doing with the typing? Have you applied for any new gigs yet?
