"Don't you hate it when you forget to bring your ID to Library... and the CSO or UCPD end up zapping you like five times with a stun gun? what is happening in todays universities now a days? UCLA library is a 24/7 library only for UCLA students..."

Clearly, the kid was NOT following their directions and THAT is why he was tazed. The cops did nothing wrong, as far as I could see. Just because it was "caught" on video doesn't mean it was inappropriate. People are just shocked by what happens in such a situation when the person being arrested/detained is being completely uncooperative, which is clearly the case here.

But that's just my two cents.

i wanted to know more of the backstory as well before passing total judgment on the officers.

but within what i saw on the tape, i think the cops did wrong in threatening the guy with multiple tasers JUST AFTER HE'D BEEN TASERED by them, when he was clearly having trouble getting up. I've seen people get tasered before. you don't just shake it off like a punch. If the cops had any training they should have known that.
I also think they were wrong in telling other students they would be tasered when all they were doing was asking for the cops' info. And in not giving the info to begin with.

Was he in cuffs? It looked like they tasered him like 3 times just for not standing up, but he was in cuffs.

Edit: Yeah, he was cuffed. They seemed like they were just doing it because he was being a dumbass and not getting to his feet. They should have just dragged/carried his ass. I don't agree with the tasering 500 times though. :csad:

I like how, instead of going out and trying to prevent REAL crimes, they're cracking down on UNIVERSITY STUDENTS.

Yeah, after the 3rd or 4th taser they were still demanding he stand up. The one thing I don't agree with is tasering him after they had him in cuffs. There seemed to be 3-4 officers involved, they should have carried him or dragged him, they seemed to be doing it just because they felt he was being a jerk and not listening to their "orders". It's hard to judge because the guy was being a jerk-ass, but they really did seem to be having a power trip with the constant threats towards the other students, plus the 900 tasering times of a cuffed student. I mean, a taser is not a ****ing toy, they could have killed his ass. Then what?

It's common knowledge that cops will taser/club/hit people simply because they don't like them.

They're lucky they didn't get attacked. They kept that little scene going far too long for their own good. The more they tasered him, the longer they took, the more angry and vocal the crowd got. It was like a 30 minute public beating.

Those "cops" are in deep doo-doo. They created and escalated a situation where there was none before (the kid was LEAVING when they stoppe him for crying out loud). They also tazered him WAY more times than was at all safe and they should be lucky that kid didn't have a seizure or a heart attack or worse. He did state that he had a medical condition, which they should have taken as a sign to stop. They had overpowered him and cuffed him, so the threat was gone. Tazering him while he was in the cuffs was a major violation of police protocol, as well. He'd already been subdued, so that was completely unnecessary. They also threatened to tazer anyone in the crowd who tried to interfere, and did not give people their badge numbers when asked repeatedly, which they are also required to do. That kid was pretty much unconscious when they carried him out, so it sort of negates the flimsy argument they might have had that they couldn't carry him out of the building. My brother is a cop and the only time they wind up having to tazer a guy (and about the only time they can justify doing so) that many times is when he's hopped up on PCP or meth and is pretty much running on pure adrenalin. This kid just happened to not have his campus ID on him and was an a-hole about it. Poor police work all the way around. This kid just got it made for the rest of his life, because he's got a hell of a lawsuit against these campus cops.

I like the video where the stretchy alien hides behind the telephone pole and tries to steal the kids soccer ball better. :down

They should have tazered him. While he was cuffed.

These cops may have unlocked the secret to Utopia though.
Just imagine,

"If you jay-walk, I will taser you 5 times.

If you play loud music after midnight, we will come to your house and taser you 5 times.

If you are caught smoking within 25 feet of the entrance of any public building
.....you will be tasered 5 times."

People would really straighten up and live right, like cops do. :)

LOL! You WILL adhere to my moral code, or I WILL tazer you five times! Do you understand me!? The cops where I live are all in amazing shape and do a lot of community outreach stuff, so I guess I would just thank my lucky stars I don't live in NYC where the cops are a bunch of corrupt fatties who get winded climbing the subway stairs after they collect some bribe money.

YES. Hopefully they get some sort of reprimend, or even lose their jobs.

They'll probably get suits against them as individuals in addition to the overall suit that will be filed against their department and UCLA. They may also wind up with some criminal charges, based on what is shown in that vid.

Things I learned from this video:

1. If a cop tasers you, then says to stand up, you better stand the hell up. Even if you can't, or they'll taser you to death until you do.

2. Phone-cameras are a po-po's worst enemy.

3. Never scream out things like; "**** you!" or "Abuse of power!!" at a group of taser-happy cops.

4. If you go to the library without your ID, then try to leave when the cops say you have to since you have no ID, you could be murdered by them. Don't EVER forget your ID.

I've purposely tasered myself tons of times like a crack addict...why?

So I could become immune.

And not because of the color of their skin?

Was he, or was he not student?

Of course not. That'd be racist :down.

Those cops are going to be in deep ****. In their reports, they will have to justify the use of the tazers; they are only to be used as a last resort. How the hell can they justify that to their superiors? The kid was already cuffed and on the ground. If he won't get up, lift him up.
Jesus ****ing God I hope those cops get shot. :down

Its funny how one event can be accounted for in dozens of ways.
