Is it me, or is there absolutely nothing likeable about the Ultimate X-Men? Now, I admit I skipped a good chunk of their run 'cause the opening issues of the series were just TOO different for my tastes. But recent arcs have brought me back and after reading the last few months and the annual, I see little has changed. These characters lack any and all redeeming qualities that made them stand out in 616.

A couple of my observations between the two realities:

Nightcrawler-looked like a demon but with the heart of a saint. Revealed to not be the case here.

Wolverine-Always struggled between his animal and human side, showing his gruffness only hid a decent heart. Here, he comes off like a complete ******* no matter what.

Storm-A former thief who became a majestic goddess and has poise and grace. Here, a thief who acts like a hardass.

Cyclops-Is a dick. ....Well, I guess some things you just can't change.

Am I alone in feeling this way; that these Ultimate X-Men are just unsympathetic jackasses?

That's not really fair. Kurt was raised by a deeply religious family and just found out that his best friend is gay. I'm sure that plenty of people have had similar conflictions.

not to mention he was in weapon X for a good while.

He kidnapped Dazzler and almost took out the rest of the X-Men. If he'd intended to kill them,he might have.

The very first story arc of UXM is still the best IMO.Everything got very repetitive from there.Bendis' run was lackluster at best.BKV did a good job with the characters but something still lacked.

Lessee. First off, Wolverine was in it. Right there marked my bias. Then it just went downhill. Jean is a ****, Cyclops is a spineless dick, Angel doesn't show up that much, Rogue I plain don't like, Storm is emo (I said it Leaguer. What.). The only redeeming members I thought were Beast, Kurt, Dazzler, and Colossus. Kitty I also don't like. But then I never liked her.

This title is at it's best when Magneto shows up.(Tomorrow People,Magnetic North)Actually wait,Return of the King wasn't all that great.

Rogue, Bobby, Angel, Collosus. There are alot of good characters.

I liked 1-14 and the arc with Spider-Man that Bendis did. Millar's last arc I thought was cool too. I haven't read anything after Bendis' arc, mostly becuase I don't like the art.....mostly.

Spiderman dated kitty pride....nuff said.

It's fine if it fits, but don't fly off the handle. I don't read Ultimate X-Men, so I wouldn't know, but being in any Ultimate title is enough to make a grown man cry.

They WERE good characters under Millar. They were real and relatable, with flaws and teenage tendencies towards irrationality. Then Vaughn came along and took a crap all over them.

I love UXM......and I like the fact that it's different. Admittedly, there have been some pretty bad streaks in the series, but overall I think it's great. Even though it went bad for a while, it's definitely picking back up :)

I don't think that Nightcrawler is a "demon" at heart in this one, he just has a lot of issues to work out.

I like the fact that Storm isn't a "majestic goddess" in the Ultimate world. We get to see a lot of her varying personality traits, not just her acting like a "hardass".

I dunno, I just find nothin' likeable about these characters. They're worse than th' evil mutants they're supposed to fight.

I feel the same way about the Ultimates, they have no redeeming values.

Like somebody said before, this book really is at its best when Magneto shows up. i know they've got something in store for him and Longshot and I can't wait till they get to it.

I take it you won't be getting ultimate wolverine: origins then...

Personally I quite like ultimate x-men simply because it's simple. At the moment there's umpteen x-books and half of them are redundant. It's nice to have a single book you can pick up each month with a good chunk of the major players in it (astonshing's bi-monthly spoons :p). Also I always loved the interplay between wolverine and cyc and it's tackled in astonishing but everytime wolverine comes on panel in that book I can't take him seriously cause joss has turned him into an unshaven boy george :( (This is the only thing I dislike about astonishing, everything else is flawless of course)

I think they have it coming because of how they act. Ult Cap is nothing but a soldier really. Iron Man will always be a jerk. Ult Hawkeye should have died.

I like the fact that Ultimate Iron Man needs the suit because of his cancer. if only that were 616 Tony so he'd just die already :o

i think in all fairness that the ultimate universe on a pretty much whole is kinda down...seems to makes stuff realsitsic they have to make folk dick heads....even captain america is an ass in ult world.

i do read the ultimate stuff i do kinda like it.. but 616 is best..original,superheroic at its best.

Ultimate Hawkeye is the only character with some semblance of dignified behavior, you know other than killing people and stuff.

I find the Ultimates are the ones who are serious jerks.

Ultimate Ant/Giant-Man is quite the gentleman too.

They are and they sort of deserved what the Libertors did to them. They tend to make mistakes and just say it was for the good of the world or it was needed. Ult X Men just get schooled alot and don't really have it coming.
