Honestly, I would give anything with Sabrina a chance. I love her music and she was really good in Emergency.

And this movie would have to be trying hard to be worse than the Burton film. That **** was insufferable.

Alice in Wonderland is such a super weird property, it'll be interesting to see what they do with it.

Anybody else remember the 1985 musical version starring Natalie Gregory that was on TV from CBS? The whole thing is on YouTube. The result was, um, interesting, but it used a lot of big name stars in entertainment at the time, like Sammy Davis Jr. and Carol Channing.

Was that the one the had the Jabberwocky at the end? I remember that thing scaring the **** out of me when I was a kid.

:) Thanks to YouTube you can watch it a lot now, too! It's in two parts, just search Alice in Wonderland 1985.

It seems to be the usual course to go the all-star adaptation route when doing movies or TV shows of this story. Wonder if they'll try that this time, too.

Nice, yeah I’ll have to revisit it. I have to see if the Jabberwock is still freaky or if it’s so silly now that I’ll laugh at it.

This is the sort of project that I'd normally lament isn't made anymore, because Carpenter is tailor made for it. Thrilled that it's happening and hope it succeeds. There's a lot of gifted song-and-dance talent in Hollywood right now that need to get their agents on this project ASAP

Give me a Chappel Roan musical next, please.

Weirdly enough, the Jabberwocky never unsettled me nearly as much as the sight of every single actor in heavy makeup in that version….

Is that KOJAK as the Cheshire Cat?

Why, yes. Yes, it is. :)

What I find interesting about this 1985 production is that they apparently found a way to shoehorn basically every performer who was still acting into the show, no matter if they fit or not. The cast list is essentially a celebrity manifest of the mid-1980s. Which was a pretty typical approach for a lot of 1980s entertainment. Sort of like The Love Boat. Most big miniseries of the time did it this way.

And as the screen grabs show, there was no attempt at realistic makeup, because the producers knew that it was the celebrities people were tuning in to see and they didn't want the actors (who they paid a lot of money for) hidden behind makeup.
