There's a thread like this for movies and books. Why not one for games?

One of mine. I actually like WWII shooters. Maybe it's because I'm into history, but I just enjoy them more than most modern FPS. The iron sights are more challenging to use than the laser sight. Every modern weapon feels the same to me. I can name just about every weapon in CoD2. Yet I have no clue what I was using in MW or MW2.

Totally agree. I can really dig a good WWII shooter. I feel like the weapons naturally balance out pretty well and are much more satisfying to use. Like I've said before, one-shotting someone from across the map in multiplayer with a bolt-action rifle in Call of Duty 2 is right up there with Halo's Plasma Grenades or Gears' Torque Bow as one of the most satisfying ways to take someone out.

Hmm...my unpopular opinion...I'm sure I have many, but I'll go with this: Not only is Final Fantasy VII not the best RPG ever, it's not even the best Final Fantasy. Seriously, not even top five.

Resistance 2 was waaaaaay better than Resistance 1 and Killzone 1 was a pretty good game!

...

:(

you die now:cmad:

nah seriously i can see where you're coming from i just love the game to much. like a lot of things the game is superb it's the fandom that ruins the thing

At first, I was never really a big fan of Sci Fi games until I played Mass Effect 2. The game was so good IMO that I went and purchased the first one.

Have you played it yet?

Yeah, I finished ME2, I was kinda upset because I heard that you could port your character from the first game over to the second, I played the games in reverse.

Oh my, where to start:

-Bayonetta and Devil May Cry, gameplay-wise, are better than God Of War. GOW is great in its own way, and I get that it's a much more mainstream and appeals to more people but have always found the actual gameplay in the former series to be funner and more satisfying.

-I personally don't care about the Mega Man franchise outside Legends anymore. I really just don't. I may play the other games for a little fun and such but can take or leave them

-I love the Metal Gear Solid franchise but really think it's time that Kojima moved on to something, anything, different. And I also don't want the next installment to star the same cast in the main role. I want a new, fresh start with all returning people to be background only. One of the main themes of the series is whether we can break from the past, let's see if the franchise can

-I'm just not that huge a fan of Halo. They're decent games and everything, but that's basically where I draw the line. I especially think fans over blow the story aspect. Not to say the story is bad, but it's pretty standard stuff without any real memorable characters. People tell me that the books are great, but if that's the case, maybe they should have adapted the books into games like they're apparently doing with Reach. Otherwise, I just don't see it.

That's a pretty bold statement, I will say Bayonetta and Devil May Cry are very good games, but I dont rank them any higher than God of War. If anything I would kinda put them on the same level. Both games have great characters and stories. I agree with you on Halo, I could never really get into those games. The only time I actually play Halo is multiplayer, that's the only thing that stands out to me, I could really care less about the story itself

Well, I'm only talking about the gameplay aspect. Story and character-wise, GOW has it pretty easily. The combat has always seemed funner and more satisfying to me, plus I think there's overall more depth in them than GOW.

I still enjoy the GOW games, though.

Oh ok, when I originally read it I was like "seriously!?!?" but I get where you are coming from.

I prefer modern games over classic games.

I prefer modern game music over classic game music. I'd take Halo's & MW2's soundtracks over Mega Man's or Sonic's music anyday (though MM & Sonic have some good songs). I prefer the more theatrical sound of modern day games.

I prefer ragdoll animation over regular death animation. It's way more funnier IMO

Why is button mashing considered a negative in some games but overlooked in other games like God of War and Arkham Asylum?

Super Mario World blows away Super Mario Bros. 3. The only thing SMB3 has going for it is the number of power-ups. But you rarely ever got them.

That's easy, because in games like God of War and Arkham Asylum, it's more or less an interactive event that's suppose to immerse you in the given action that your character is carrying out. In fighting games per se, anyone who is skilled would see button mashing as a cheap tactic and it general shows lack of actually learning the character. Perfect example, Eddy Gordo from Tekken and Maxi from Sould Calibur

How in the hell do you button mash in Arkham Asylum?

-Call Duty 7 (or 8 or 9) game's design is poor and rather uninterested, as a game and the company behind it, it represents mostly what's wrong with gaming. It should be pretty easy to replace Infinity Ward, most of the general public wont notice, or care.

-Certain games are primarily designed with consoles in mind for more money and a larger audience become dumbed down.

-Wall-cover is a terrible mechanic, it takes away the visceral element, most of the time the AI just stands around waiting to die.

-Grand Theft Auto 4's social elements are terribly designed.

-Bioshock has terrible game design.

-The majority "DLC" outside of a few select titles are a rip off that the user community could create for free.

-Left4dead 2 should have been a standalone expansion pack at £19.99 as opposed to £29.99 (or £39.99 for consoles).

-Oblivion as an RPG, isn't very good.

-Mirrors Edge is one of the best first person games of this generation, including wort's.

-Valves episodic content failed, people tend to associate episode content with Valve but Telltale Games are the ones actually doing it properly.

-Team Fortress 2 is best looking, best supported FPS of this generation, putting Call Of Duty 8 (or 9) to shame.

-Dead Space works well as an action game but is very poor as a horror game.

-Resident Evil 5's major blunder was attempting to make a co-op experience out of something with a single player mentality e.g. lots of cut-scenes.

-Metal Gear Solid 4 was the second worst game in the series with Metal Gear Solid 2 being the worst.

-Bioware are far too formulaic.

- Guild Wars was a far more innovative and in general (a) better game than World Of Warcraft with a better (albeit not a proper MMO) multiplayer model.

- Developers are trying far too hard to emulate Hollywood movies.

- The problem isn't so really in "world war II" as a setting, it's in people associating it with Medal Of Honor and Call Of Duty which for the most part, are interchangeable.

- The Old Republic will blow people away, getting masses of people who hate MMO's and were against the idea of it being one, changing there tune.

I don't see a difference between games that are knocked for it and games that are praised and have it.

Because there's only one button to attack. Yeah, you can chuck batarangs but what's the point? It just leaves you open and melee is more efficient.

Arkham Asylum was easily the most overrated game last year. People were too willing to look past its faults because all Batman games since the NES movie tie-in have sucked.

It's a fine game and I plan on getting it again now that I have a PS3, but it didn't deserve to be a Game of the Year candidate.

It might be mashy if you're only fighting one or two dudes. But you can't button mash a guy with a gun. You can't button mash a guy with a taser. You can't button mash a larger group of enemies.

You have to know when to dodge, when to stun, and when to attack. And all that isn't even taking into consideration that like 75% of the game is spent sneaking around in the shadows, setting traps and such.

- Grand Theft Auto IV isn't as fun to play as San Andreas, Vice City or GTA III.. :O

- Although Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is a fun game to play, I don't think it has improved that much since Modern Warfare 1.. infact it felt like a somewhat side step after WaW..

- Battlefield Bad Company 2 is better than Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2

- Fight Night Round 3 is better than Fight Night Round 4

Thats all I can think of for now..

Probably because in fighting games, the player exploits it and in action games its more of an interactive event that must be done to complete an objective. That's the best I can come up with

God of War 3 has a horrible story and it makes the characters flip with their characterizations given if you aks me. Gaia allows Kratos to fall to his death with the Blade of the Titans, which was a *huge* deal in the 2nd game was flatout stupid. This is *the* sword that Zeus used to win the first great war, yet Gaia lets Kratos fall with the sword? Really Gaia? You're practicially giving Hades the sword?

Then we got Kratos himself, whos so angsty and angry that he doesn't even care about whats happening to the world around him, yet the 2nd game clearly shows he was very depressed and outraged when Zeus destroyed Sparta, yet here he causes the destruction of Sparta himself! Allright Allright to be very fair, at the end of the game he does give something to humanity: Hope.

Also the whole "Zeus became mad evil man because you opened Pandora's box" was flatout stupid. Zeus was already a pretty evil guy, but we find out he became paranoid because of the powers in Pandora's box? WHY did they task Kratos to open it then?! The story is *so* inconsistant that i find GoW 3's story flatout *horrible*.
