There's a big change that very soon I'll get a new job offer.

Currently I work for the dep. of Defense on an immigration/military/police spot.
I have a life contract and I get paid about 2000 USD a month.

The job offer will be the following:
Dep. of Justice an immigration spot (what I'm doing now without the police and military stuff).
I will get a 2 years contract (with the possibility of life contract. If I live up to expectation) and will get paid about 2500 USD a month.

My big issue is this:
The two years uncertainty of the contract, I don't have much of a diploma to fall back on. So if I don't get a new contract I'm screwed.

What should I do?

life is about taking risks... id go for it.

Im the first to vote, life can be hard for the underclass.Do what you have to do to surive.

I'd go for it. There are plenty of other jobs out there if you don't get the one you want.

Honestly state and federal jobs are almost guaranteed life jobs, as long as you work work hard and don't f'k up.

I say go for it. Before you know it, you'd pass the 2 years.

i haven't even heard your dillemma but if you are asking on the net, then you shouldn't take it...

i'll go back and read it and see if i'm right...

meh, for once i'm wrong, just go for it...it sounds like you could get your old job back at the end of the two years anywho if it all goes potty???

you live on only 24 grand a year? is that before or after tax???

is that enough to get by with in the states?

if you are afraid of losing the job and do not think you can do it well enough, then stay where you are. If you have any type of ambition take the risk...which I percieve as quite small and move.

I just wonder what is the common form of job contracts in the States?

Dude, I live on 9 grand a year. 24 is some damn distant dream.

Shoot the job in the face, then rape the exit wound.

Problem solved:heart:

9 grand?

I take it you either live at home or in shared rented accomodation and perhaps you don't own a vechicle?

i get paid more than that to study :O

why only 9 grand???

What do you guys get paid (after taxes) in the US?
2500 USD is a lot of money every month here in Holland.

My home, car etc. is a grand totall of 1100 USD a month. The rest I can spend.

i get a grand a month tax free bursary but i'm in the uk so it's in pounds.

rent costs half of that, and i work the bills into my weekly budgets. It's really good as a student but if i was in a proper job, i would go for much more, 25 would probably be my minimum asking salary.
