Suppose we should get this thread going now that the film will premier today!
A mod can edit this however they wish to, but I just wanted to create a place where the events of the film could be discussed freely as others await the premier in their respective countries.
Can also post other fan and critic reviews/reactions here.
Embargo's breaking soon, so I thought might as well.
Saw it today at a press screening in Austin and was a little underwhelmed.
I felt a lot of the movie was build up and slow to get started. Acting was great and Oscar Isaac, Michael Fassbender, and Sophie Turner were my favorites. Plot was messy though, had a lot of threads that needed to be established, but everything that's there is well-written. Overall, some cleaning up of the narrative would've made this a great film.
More in depth stuff below. Spoilers - duh.
I felt the Quicksilver scene in the mansion tried to top the one in DoFP and it doesn't quite work as well because we don't really linger on his character's moments as much as it should have. Also, his relationship with Magneto is never given proper focus and will probably confuse viewers who aren't familiar with their story. It kind of comes out of nowhere.
Moira McTaggert was highly unnecessary.
Wolverine cameo was cool, and well-integrated into Jean's arc.
You really feel for Scott Summers. Sheridan does a great job. Plus we get his classic goggles at the end.
Lawrence didn't really impress this time around.
Storm doesn't do much during the final battle; felt wasted. She uses lightning twice and dodges Scott's laser beams and that's it.
Jean Grey was awesome. Hints at the Phoenix, she plays an important part defeating Apocalypse.
Oscar Isaac is intimidating. Reminded me of Vader. Doesn't really get to show off his powers, though. Magneto is responsible for the destruction around the world.
My God, Magneto's arc is perfect and tragic. Redemption is long overdue for his character. There's a moment in Auschwitz where he experiences a "rebirth" of sorts when he learns to master the metal in the earth. Gloriously shot, incredible cross cutting with First Class. Best moment of the film for me by far.
Overall, 7/10. So much goodness held back by the lack of tightness to its plot. I think a lot of people will enjoy it.
@IncognitoWalrus thanks for your review! Looks like Storm fans criticizing what little Storm was doing action-wise in the trailers were right. Storm just never gets her due action-wise. Oh well.

Angel and Nightcrawler have a rivalry throughout the film. Angel doesn't have much of a personality, but he is driven to join Apocalypse because of the crappy life he's lived being a cage fighter.
Nightcrawler is nerdy, a little funny. There's a culture clash when he arrives in the States and has to learn what a mall is from Scott.
In the final battle, Nightcrawler and Angel do battle and Nightcrawler comes out on top. Angel later tries to hijack the X-Men's jet but Nightcrawler teleports them out and the jet crashes with Angel inside. The last we see of him is his bloodied body. I don't think he's dead, but he's banged up all right.

Jubilee survives. For some reason she isn't with Nightcrawler, Jean, and Scott when Stryker captures the mutants, so she is absent from the last part of the movie. We never see her powers.
No, we only get a scene of them leaving a theater playing Return of the Jedi.
Jean has a lot. She's an important character and plays a pivotal role in defeating Apocalypse. Plus, she has a small but poignant moment with Wolverine.
She has an arc. Mystique has become a hero to mutants after saving Nixon from Magneto. Storm looks up to her when Apocalypse recruits her.
Later on, Storm learns that Mystique is fighting against Apocalypse.
She's mostly sidelined though and her arc isn't really at the forefront. But it's nicely tied with Mystique's, because she has to learn to be a hero and role model.
Overall, for how many characters they had, Storm was done ok. Could've had more cool moments for her, though.
Thank you Incognito it does suck to hear about the action part with Storm because I chose to defend her character in this movie so much from naysayers. I'm hoping everything else she does makes up for it. I did kind of feel that's all we would get from Storm action wise. What about the costumes do we see them in action?
1) Wolverine probably has 5 minutes tops. Very brief cameo. He doesn't have any lines.
2) There's no real lead. This is the first X-Men film that feels like an ensemble picture to me. There's balance between Charles, Magneto, and Raven. Scott and Jean also have sizable roles.
Would you describe the movie to be an emotional experience, on par with Mystique dropping the gun, Past Xavier meeting Future Xavier, or the happy ending of DOFP? Or is it mostly a well made blockbuster but with not as much heart as DOFP?
