Planning to make some dinner because i'm too cheap to spend wads of cash on an expensive meal, either in or out.

anyone got any good/cheap recipees

trying to do a three course meal....

dietary restrictions are a basically that i can only prepare vegetarian style dishes although fish can be used.

feel free to drop anything that is fairly easy to make in here for the use of any other hypers that may be cooking for their partners on wednesday.

well i can't prepare, poultry or mammal meat, i never said anyone was a vegetarian...

;)

A real cheap dish is pasta pomodoro.

You can make a simple tomato basil sauce with some garlic and some good pasta.

As a starter, make mozzarella and tomato.

For desert, you can buy some fresh fruit and sorbet and as an example, if you have apple sorbet, buy some apples, gut it out. Cook it lightly in some butter and cinamon, then place a scoop in the middle and sprinkle some cinamon on top.

It all depends oon how cheap you want to go.

The issue is the wine, not the food.

You should maybe edit you first statement because it amkes no sense. I am assuming you meant too cheap to take out for dinner.

thanks, it's been amended

Well thanks for the advice, I think i actually have the main course pretty much covered

dessert is up in the air as well as the starter.

Not doing wine, I've already got some champers, hence why cheap is good...

Meal is already going to be fattening so i was thinking of perhaps a soup for a starter, I quite like pumpkin soup although i don't have a blender, do you think a manual food processor would suffice in liquidizing the pumpkin sufficiently?

If I were you, I would get some hands on some champagne at least. You can get a decent one for €30 a bottle or less.

And I doubt you can liquidise it sufficiently with a manuel food processor unless you like yours chunky.

You can make chicken noodle soup, using those noodle packs they sell for 30 cents.

I have another idea for you...make artichokes.

oh, i've already got some champagne, i mentioned it before...

alright, i've seen a blender for 10 bucks i could get, probably a good investment anywho...

main meal is carb based already, don't want to go all out with the noodles

artichokes eh? I'll look them up...

Really cheap and simple:

Liptons Noodle & Sauce Side Dish
Frozen mixed vegetables (I like the California Mix)
Canned Peaches and Whip Cream (dessert)

If you're willing to spend a little money:

- Use fresh Cauliflower, bring water to a boil, fry some butter in a pan and after draining the water off the cauliflower pour the hot butter on top of it
- Strawberries dipped in chocolate and ice cream

I'm making dinner for my gf as well.

Appetizer will be corn fritters and a salad.

Main course will be my first attempt at Shepard's Pie.

Dessert, eh, that I can just pick up. I know she likes Creme Brule but I unfortunatelly don't have blow torch to carmelize the top.

If anyone knows any good gluten-free valentine's recepies I'd be really glad. We can't eat out because of my wife's allergies.

Taking her out with the place we go to being her choice then afterwards watching a movie at home.
Have you made a reservation at this venue already because more than likely, her place of choice is going to be booked out if you try to get a place there on wednesday.

Sounds great.

Of course, isn't pumpkin soup a lil, I don't know seasonal?

perhaps....:ninja:

wanting to think of something that will go with the red theme...but tomato is too obvious....

originally i was going to go for something west african, which would be a pepper stew which is usually made with goat meat...

this is probably the closest-non goat version of it

the thing is that though, I wouldn't mind making the goat meat version because she doesn't mind making products made from it but it won't retain that much of the red colour...

and if i want it to change colour, i really have to add some puree to it, which i'm not keen on experimenting with on the night...

besides, pumpkin sounds cheaper...
:o

Last year, I ended up sending 101 roses and flying to Paris to take her to a 3 star michelin restaurant.

This year, i have decided to do something radically different.....forget about it and surprise her with a weekend to Rome.

wow, you're making it increasingly harder to top what you've done in previous years...

what was the radical idea you had in mind?

Christmas, Valentine's Day, Anniversary and Birthday, the gift giving just started to get excessive.

VD and Anniversary are now reserved for going out, a dinner, maybe a concert or a show.
