Variant covers ruining Stories?????

Today I went into my LCS to pick up this weeks books (big week, 17 books.) On the top of my list was Civil War #3. When I walked in, behind the counter (which you have to pass to get to the books) are all the limited variant covers. I look over and I see the McGuinness cover to Civil War #3 (CW3 Spoiler-->)

with THOR on the cover. I did not know that Thor was going to appear in this and if I did not see that cover the end of the book would of been so much better. Even though a few pages before they hint at it with the lighting reference but still would of been much more of an impact during the read.

This is not the first time that this has happened and it occurs with both Marvel and DC. It's just this time upset me enough to write this. Now I am not against the variant covers, I actually like them. Its just they should come out the week after the initial book comes out to at least give us a week to read the story without it being spoiled.

Let me know if its just me or if this bothers other people too.

Its really your LCS fault. They were told ahead of time that the cover had a huge spoiler. They shouldve posted a sign saying to ask for the cover if you wanted it and have it stored away from the public's view.

Yeah but I understand why the store would want to display it. If someone sees this cover and orignally had no plans to purchase it then sees it they may decide to buy it. This actually happened while I was there. A guy saw the cover and is

then picked it up. BTW did you guys see the covers to #4. I think this cover would of worked better to go along with the #4 covers than #3.

Well your LCS was warned. Its up to them to do what they wanted to do. A sign that says "Civil War #3 McGuiness variant cover available upon request. Big spoiler!" I probably wouldve asked to see it out of sheer curiosity. But i get what youre saying.

Well, this spoiler was pretty well kept up until today. They did not show the covers to CW 4 until today which has

Sometimes varient covers ruin stories with spoilers, but frankly, Marvel almost goes out of its way to do that over the Internet and in other ways. But I simply see varients as a very cynical way of sucking every last dollar out of hardcore Marvel fans, the ones that Marvel is supposed to care about and rely on the most.

Kind of like how major league sports subject their "attending" hardcore audience to killer ticket prices for any decent game, high priced food, and games that often start late on work/school nights. There's almost this universal trend for major companies to realize who their mainline audience is and then to just cynically treat them like complete garbage while at the same time trying to pull as many dollars from them as they can.
