Venom now has a stand alone film, according to the studio.

What's to counter? You think Venom can't carry his own movie, I do. I'm not going to argue with you over something as stupid as that. Leave it be & move on with your life.

You're on a forum about comic book characters. And, you're trying to tell me that you think a discussion about the plot of a comic book based movie is stupid?

LOL! Pull the other one, it's got bells on it.

Leave it be & move on with your life.

I don't know about you, but my life doesn't come to a grinding halt when discussing movies.

Does yours?

No, I never said that but it is kind of pointless to start a debate/argument over something as petty as this.

I would guess your life does come screeching to a halt with things like this since you can't seem to DROP THE DISCUSSION.

This is my last post towards this crap, I don't feel like getting into any petty squabbles.

No, I never said that but it is kind of pointless to start a debate/argument over something as petty as this.

What is petty about discussing why you think Venom is a rich enough character to carry a movie by himself without Spider-Man?

I would guess your life does come screeching to a halt with things like this since you can't seem to DROP THE DISCUSSION.

LMAO! Are you for real?

Discussing a topic does not bring life to a halt. Cop onto yourself.

Please don't fight or I'll be forced to start mooning people, if you value your eyesight, you'll stop now.

So, who do you guys want as Venom if Topher Grace doesn't come back?

Yeah, that's what mislead me into thinking that Topher wouldn't be a very good Venom. Boy were we wrong, he did a hell of a job. It's too bad that *****ebag Sam Raimi didn't give Venom too much screentime.

Venom is totally and utterly incapable of carrying his own movie, and probably one of the least worthy villains to get a movie. He's no Magneto. He has not got the depth or story to make a movie.

He was created as an enemy to Spider-Man. That's the only way he functions best.

This movie is a train wreck waiting to happen.

I like Venom, but I agree 100%.

I wouldn't want Topher because.....he kinda blew up in Spider-Man 3. That would just be stupid to have him in this.

Venom, as a Spider-Man 3 villain, played by Grace, I liked and was pretty well done.

BUT! Venom as a Spider-Man lore comic/tv/game villain, played by Grace as a Spider-Man 3 villain in the movie, I didn't like as much. It was just too little too late and too fast.

I'm still on the fence about what the hell a solo movie about this character is going to do.

Topher was fantastic, I enjoyed every moment he was on film. As for Venom, I disagree with your opinion about Sam treating Venom badly because I think Venom was treated very well and what lead up to the transformation into Venom was handled very well to.

By the way, if Topher doesn't return, here's who I think should play Venom. He was originally going to be put in the first Spidey film, but he wasn't in it.

What the hell would Venom be doing for two hours without Spider-Man, and if someone says fighting Carnage as a good hero Venom...I'll simply puke?

I'm pretty sure they could come up with something for him to do.

Btw, who said the movie had to be two hours long?

i really want this movie to come out...a movie dedicated to venom=my fantasy(not a sexy fantasy but fanboy)
hope Topher comes back and shows what he can really do with the proper screentime

He needs to give the movie a chance. With him in it, it could potentially be the best Marvel spin-off movie ever made.

Venom doesn't need his own movie. What Venom needed was a Spider-Man film in which he was the only villain. Yes, he is one of the most popular villains in the comics, but that doesn't mean he can have a successful movie - quality wise. As Joker said, he is no Magneto. There just isn't enough depth from Venom without the writers having to drastically change him from his comic-counterpart. Also, who would be the hero of the film? Wait, they are going to change Venom into an anti-hero when Venom being a villain (his primary function of being) was already a bang-up job? Presumably, if this is taking place after Spider-Man 3, how can you have Venom when Eddie Brock got fried via pumpkin bomb?

Of course, it always depends on the writer, but I just can't see it. If anything, this film would hold back other Marvel superheroes from having film adaptations. You don't see WB pitching ideas for Joker or Lex Luthor having their own movies.

:down

With a good writer there could be more depth to Venom's character & he could be made more interesting. I'm going to see this movie no matter what.

Good for you, if this film even starts production and never enters development hell.

I,for one,can see Venom starring in his own film. It would be Venom vs. Carnage, but they should make Eddie Brock more fleshed out. Have him struggle with his personal demons. He is depressed and angry, but does he control the symbiote or does it control him? He wants to enjoy the power he's given, but at the same time, there's still a good person underneath. So,when Carnage is born and starts murdering people,Brock has to decide whether he should actually help people or continue his own evil ways. Carnage could be encouraging him by saying,"You have all this power and you wanna waste in on others? Use it to get what you want!" I think it would also be awesome for Brock to have some kind of love interest. Maybe he could meet a woman who generally wants to help him get his sanity back and starts caring about him, giving Brock a reason to actually feel love for someone again. Yet,he'll still have feelings for Gwen.
There's just so many possibilities for the character and this movie. I wouldn't write it off so easily, but I wouldn't rejoice either. Let's just see how this develops. As for being worried about this turning into another Electra, don't bother with that. Electra isn't really that well known by alot of people and the movie wasn't that impressive with it's special effects. Venom is by far,the most popular villain out there today and even friends I know who don't know much about comics, know who he is. Even if the movie isn't that great you can bet it will make money. Venom fighting Carnage? Who wouldn't pay to see that!? Let's say this turns out to be like Freddy vs. Jason. Yes,the acting and writing was bad,but really, who wanted to see that? We wanted to see Freddy and Jason tearing each other apart and that's what we could get here. The only way this film can fail is if they don't take it seriously enough...imo.

Not necessarily...all it would require is a good rewrite of the Eddie Brock/Venom character. And an origin for the symbiote that could be homage to The Thing/At The Mountains of Madness. :)
