Early 'Bond 22' Rumour: Goran Visnjic As The Villain?

*Possible Spoilers* Vesper's Algerian boyfriend
Written by Devin Zydel on 08 Mar, 2007

***Possible Spoilers***
With the release of Bond 22 less than two years away, now is the primetime for the seemingly endless supply of rumours.
First posted on the CommanderBond.net Forums by ‘smartz,’ a Croatian film magazine has reportedly revealed that Goran Visnjic (who was one of the many candidates suggested for the role of James Bond in Casino Royale) is set to play the villain in Bond 22. The full quote:
Apparently when auditioning for Bond in Casino Royale, Goran Visnjic did such a good job he burned into the minds of the EON psyche. So powerful was his performance that he single handly won the role of next Bond Baddie in the upcoming Bond 22 film with Daniel Craig. It is rumoured that Goran’s agent has confirmed the star is working on something massive and will be taking a well earned break from ER in late 2007. It is rumoured that Goran will be playing Vesper Lynd’s former love interest and that his role will be sizable, meanacing and significant to the plot of the upcoming Bond adventure. Bond 22 is continuation of Casino Royale and will be forming a trilogy story for Daniel Craig’s rough and tough Bond.
At this stage, anything is possible, so keep in mind this is just one of many rumours out there. Time will tell…

The way Casino Royale ended i think I would really like that storyline

It's just a rumor, probably groundless, invented by fans of Goran who still thinks he could have been a good Bond (he couldn't) and if it was true, I am really not sure he is such a good actor to be in the franchise.

He'd be good I suppose, he'll need to prove himself after taking part in Elektra. I'd love to see Alexander Siddig (Star Trek: DS9, Syriana, Kingdom of Heaven, and recently 24) in the role.

This suggestion came to mind primarily due to my being a fan of his work. I do, however, think that he would fit nicely into the world of James Bond though.

Reminds me of the casting of Cillian Murphy in Batman Begins. I hope Goran does gets cast as Vesper's Algerian boyfriend because it would be awesome to see him as a baddie.

How does it remind you of Cillian Murphy? And I really am skeptical about Goran's capability to match Craig's charisma, presence and overall acting skills.

I think it was reported that Goran had actually turned such a role down, if anything (I doubt any level of casting has occurred for BOND 22... the script was just turned in, after all).

I sure hope they find somebody else, if the Algerian boyfriend is indeed a badguy in Bond 22.

ER isn't exactly a vehicle for Goran to show his ability as an actor. However, I believe he does have the ability to play opposite Craig. A film like Elektra would not substantiate that remark. However, if one to were watch Welcome To Sarajevo, people would know he has the ability to act exceptionally well given the right material.

I think the idea of casting Goran is an intriguing scenario, because the concept of the Algerian Boyfriend is very clever. Bond and this man are total opposites. From aesthetics to morals, they are extreme opposites, however the one common thread that will have them cross each other's paths is Vesper.

I think the dynamic between Goran and Craig would be interesting.

Me too. I think we can safely bet on the Algerian boyfriend featuring in BOND 22 to some capacity, but I think that his role, and who will be playing him, are both very much up in the air right now.

I think the idea of the Algerian boyfriend being the next baddie is a great one. I'd prefer to see Alexander Siddig in the role rather than Goran, but I'm confused. If the Algerian boyfriend is just another psychopath, what the hell did Vesper see in him?

I think the Algerian boyfriend will be the henchman of the organisation, or something like that. Not the main badguy. Anyway, as long as they cast a seirous actor and not some cute boy, I am happy. Maybe they should consider some French actors. But this Goran rumor is just a rumor, I think. I am still doubting he was even considered for Bond.
