A 22 year-old woman from Jacksonsville, Florida has pleaded guilty to killing her baby son over a game of...Farmville.

Alexandra V. Tobias says her three-month old child, Dylan Lee Edmondson, had been crying while she was trying to play the popular Facebook casual game. This angered Tobias, who told authorities that she shook the baby, had a cigarette to calm herself down, then shook him again. It's believed he "may have hit his head during the shaking".

Dylan's death was classified as second-degree murder, a charge that carries the possibility of a life sentence in prison.

I hope somebody sues the makers of Farmville for not warning people that it could cause them to kill their child.

I really want to be outraged and disgusted, but I started laughing when I read "she shook the baby, had a cigarette to calm herself down, then shook him again." And for that, I'm going to hell alongside anyone who has ever laughed at a dead baby joke.

--EDIT--
Aaaannndd the anger kicks in.

This reminds me of a story in a newspaper that Alfred Hitchcock liked to carry around. Basically, man takes date to movie, movie ends, man takes woman out back and strangles her. The movie they watched was Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs.

Clearly, the logical conclusion here is that Facebook made her do it. I'm sure she didn't have postpartum depression at all.

This is why I support the citizenship model in Starship Troopers.

Why keep her alive? Just shoot her in the head, & roll her in a ditch. Problem solved.

I'm really disgusted by this news, I could kind've understand if the baby was her sibling or somebody else but her own child?? How can a video game make you so obsessed that you would take another life just to play it in peace??

Now I dont really agree with the death penalty but this woman really does deserve to DIE

This is why becoming a mother too young is a problem. In her warped mind her damn fictional farm was more important than her child.

She can't plea insanity, can she? I mean she did take a smoke break.

Just another day on Facebook.

You like 'men with hairy bumcracks', then you check your messages/notifications, then you poke some woman you used to go school with but never really liked but now you do because she's gone fat and her boyfriend isn't as hot as yours, then you tend your carrots, you kill a child, then you feed your sheep. You log off and buy that dress that's been calling to you. Then you go to prison.

Alexandra V. Tobias is in prison ;-(

Exactly what does Farmville have to do with the situation other than that was the game she was playing at the time? Chances are if she was watching TV or gardening she would've reacted the same way to the baby's crying. Why not say that being a smoker is what caused her to do it? It's just as relevant.

It gives the people who like to rant about things - such as how much they hate facebook - a chance to rant about it. It's like the APPLAUSE sign at a talkshow...only it says RANT NOW.

How about I shake her & see how she would react.. I doubt it would calm her down.

Stupid *****.

I don't agree with the death penalty, but she really needs to suffer some harsh punishment. I would also suggest removing her ovaries. That way, if they ever do let her out, she can't have anymore kids.

This reminds of the woman ahile ago whose kids died because she left them in the car to play Everquest. I don't remebr, but I'm guessing it was a hot day.

See, there's this thing I like to call "ironic humor", where (for example) I take a situation where it's clear that the person's own issues and tendency for violence take clear precedence over the content of the video game when considering what caused this tragedy. By acting as if the video game is to blame (something that happens often when there's even a slight connection to a violent video game), I'm able to parody those who react that way while simultaneously give evidence that their claims of violent video games causing violence are untrue.

Shaken Baby Syndrome and deaths by shaking are unfortunately very common. It usually occurs when the baby won't stop crying and the mother or father gets too frustrated/angry. It can happen at any time; in this instance, it just so happened to occur during playing a game. The solution is not to sue Facebook, but to keep trying to educate mothers about how to calm their fussy babies the right way and the dangers of shaking infants.

I was talking about the article itself.
