Video Game Movies

I think the opposite. If anything Mass Effect with it's multiple paths and endings it would be more watered down than Gears.

and its not like we couldnt get a Mass Effect and a Gears movie

That's also a worry too, though with Mass Effect I don't think they're going to go straight the road of the games. The ME universe is so grand and big that you create a movie separate from the games.

With Gears, I'm just worried they'll cut down the violence in Gears. The reason why Gears wasn't happening now was because they were only gonna get a $30 million budget, which would've been nothing.

Shogun 2 is basically Ran in everything but name only.
If it was called "Ran" it would probably be the best movie to video-game adaptation made, one based on a Akira Kurosawa movie no less, as opposed to the low grade movie emulations video games typically attempt.

Then they'll fall into the trap

and Im not saying I want the 30 mill Gears movie, which I doubt will happen. Im saying a higer budgeted Gears movie is what Im looking forward to

i think a devil may cry movie would be cool. of course i would want them to follow the storyline created from the games but lets be honest, the first one really didnt have much story. instead id like to see dantes awakening be the first movie and go from there. of course i wouldnt mind some differences from the games cuz thats expected but nothing drastically different

same goes for metal gear solid. that storyline, i really dont even kno how they would make a movie out of them without offending all the game players out there. i have all the games but find it nearly impossible to make a direct film out of the often-confusing story those games have. theres about 6 games that create a story and they bounce around from different characters in different times. personally i would love to see 4 films that round out everything. not everything could be explained in the film so itd be cool to see animated prequels that explain things with the voice actors from the movies. but to see something that would be the original metal gear or metal gear solid as a first film would be really cool. if they did solid then it would be a cool way to explain how he is a clone as a twist throughout the film. past that i wouldnt be so sure what the narrative would be. raiden shouldnt be a main focus in the films, i like him in the games but leave him there for the most part, it would just complicate the overall story. instead the stories from the original metal gear, metal gear solid and metal gear solid 4 should be made into a series of films. i dont find it necesary for snake eat to be made into a film unless its later on and they are trying to fill in all the bumps.

Well there's already a Devil May Cry film in the works. Metal Gear would make a great film, but if I remember correctly, Hideo Kojima stated that he wouldn't want a film to be made because it could possibly hurt the game franchise if it's not successful.

If I remember correctly the reason Kojima turned down the last attempt at a Metal Gear movie was because the budget wasn't big enough.

No, it was actually because of screenplay and creative issues, I believe. They didn't get far enough into the project for there to be any talk of budget. He has no problem with potentially making a film, though, far as I know. That's never been said.

^ Yeah, I have an old EGM magazine were Kojima is asked who he would like to direct a MGS adaptation and he said The Washowskis. That was a very old magazine so I don't know how much candle that holds in recent time; there is some other source that says that Kojima wanted Viggo Mortensen (sp?) as Snake but that one I don't have any proof our source. Personally I think Christian Bale could do a great Snake, he is leaving the Batman franchise soon so it would be nice for him to take on another big scale / hero role.

I would love a Metal Gear movie but only if done right.I'm glad Kojima is pciky about who he hands his story over to. I wish all game developers were like that.As far as DMC the only thing they can really adapt is DMC3 as part 1 has no story.Thing is DMC is something that can get screed up rather easily. The anime series was decent but it added characters because as cool as Dante is and love him the games haven't given him all that much depth.

I could see them starting off with Devil May Cry 3 as the first film just so it could establish Dante as a character. Then from there the sequel can be Devil May Cry 1 and we see Dante encounter Trish for the first time, maybe have a bit of rivalry between her and Lady. I'm iffy on them every using anything from Devil May Cry 2 since that game didn't really live up to any of the others. If they were to take something from DMC 2, I would say Dante's suit.

My dream Left 4 Dead cast:

Bill - Jeff Bridges
Zoey - Rooney Mara
Francis - Chris Pine
Louis - Mos Def or someone else. He's the only character that they can improve upon.

I seriously think they should go for the more wilder franchises like Mega Man,Mario,Metroid or something like Street Fighter and try to make them look as close as the original game as possible.Take some cues from Scott Pilgrim.

Well, considering how Scott Pilgrim did, I don't think studios will want to go for something like that for some time. :funny:

I'm not a huge Halo fan or anything( I mean I like them, but they aren't as amazing as some say), but Halo could easily be a truly GREAT Sci-Fi film franchise. Like that IGN article stated, there is so much mythology involved with Halo. There are soooo many things you could do with it.

The only way a studio goes back to doing that is if a big name actor or director's attached.

There was a rivalry between Trish and Lady in the anime. The movie could take some cues from there too.Although I fear DMC will go down the same path as the Resident Evil franchise.

Im not that in to horror games or movies, but that trailer for Dead Space did get em interested in the game and maybe a movie

I had never heard of Dead Space because I'm really not a video game dork but I do dabble. I then saw the television commercial for Dead Space 2. How in the hell did I miss this? Oh yeah, I'm not a video game dork.

So after unsuccessful attempts to download the first one, because I don't like picking up series in the middle, I decided to 'to hell with it' and just downloaded Dead Space 2.

This game...

I'll just say that this really could be an Alien like trilogy, and just as good if not better, if it doesn't become an adaptation abortion. Honestly though, I am unsure whether or not they should continue video game adaptations. Seemed like a good idea for awhile, then came the Max Payne movie. At first, it's so bad that you think it's just you. Then you realize pretty much everyone thought it wasn't properly done. Should video games such as Metal Gear, Contra, Metroid, Castlevania, and Wolfenstein stay away from being made into movies until it is figured out what went wrong with:

Super Mario Brothers - video game adaptations really started on a bad note.
Street Fighter - second step was almost a complete face plant.
Lara Croft - not bad but video game adaptations are completely going in the wrong direction at this point.
Doom - Doom, The Rock, okay - this should be good but...
Resident Evil - that wasn't a bad video game adaptation, one of the best actually, although the original storylines weren't followed.
Silent Hill - the way everything came together in this game adaptation was great, easily the best so far - glad to hear it is getting a sequel.
Max Payne - oh ****, back to square one.
Prince of Persia - I'm still trying to figure out 'why?'

In all honesty, I don't know if the video game adaptations will ever be 'fixed' until a successful adaptation of Pac-Man gets done. Pong aside, because I think Tron is actually Pong due to copyright ********, Pac-Man was the first big one and until that's adapted I think video game adaptation may forever be missing on a few cylinders. And that C.G.I. won't help for Pac-Man unless all video game adaptations are going to be animated C.G.I., which would defeat a good deal of purpose in adapting them to the big-screen anyways.

And really, all things considered, the comic books may need to be completely adapted first. Even more, still haven't seen a lot of successful adaptations of notorious historic figures. There is anywhere from 350-500 historic figures that could have movies made about them and we've only seen about... what 25-35? And all aren't even well known either.

The Last Temptation of Christ, The Passion of the Christ are fine by me for covering Jesus Christ, and if you want to go back before Jesus with figures such as Moses in The Ten Commandments then you can but until the religious fanatics are silenced we don't have one. So we're really no further than The Ten Commandments. And 'yes' I have seen the older movies depicting the life of Jesus and 'yes' I think the later titles could indeed be more accurate. So what in the hell these people are *****ing about escapes me.

Portrayal of historic figures via cinema is important and should supercede video game adaptations because I do believe motion-pictures may play a vital role in the functioning of this planet and these historic figures also play a vital role. Film is still a baby in the scheme of this 'place' so there is no reason to rush but... unless we(people) really want to push the envelope and redo the whole thing but that would probably start World War III or something, hence the complexity of the situation due to numerous movies being produced covering a WWIII and the world afterwards.

Strange Days is a good movie to explain part of the significance the ring of technology beginning to surround this planet may play... but then I realized I hadn't actually seen Strange Days and it was just the portion of The Matrix that came from the 1980's from a supposed fictitious place in a 1981 movie called Outland that was never discussed.

And well, Outland is also a good idea of what a Dead Space adaptation could be, even though there aren't any aliens.

Q: Will it just be an adaptation of the first game, second game, or a completely new story?
A: It will be a completely new story

Q: How are you going to address the element of ‘choice’ that the players have in the game?
A: A movie narrative is different than gameplay. There won’t be a choice aspect to this film, just a normal film narrative.

Q: Will it be a trilogy?
A: We are really focused on making this a great movie, so we’ll see where it takes us. We have to get the first one right to know whether there will be more.

Q: Will Seth Green portray Joker (that character he voiced in the game?)
A: No.

Q: Will the movie be focused on Sheppard?
A: Yes.

Q: If the movie is focused on Sheppard, will it be the male Sheppard or the female Sheppard?
A: Male.

Q: Can you give any hints to potential casting?
A: No. Stay tuned.

Q: Will BioWare allow plot / character changes?
A: Yes, we are working closely with BioWare on the development of this project.

Q: Would you consider Daft Punk to do the soundtrack?
A: We love Daft Punk, but it’s too early to say who will produce the soundtrack.

Seems to be falling into the trap

what trap lol you want it to be an exact storyline of the games that would be boring

anyways i am wondering why Hollywood is'nt doing a Infamous movie starring Sam worthington it is just perfect casting

:huh:How would an adaption of the game be boring? That doesnt make a bit of sense unless youre saying that the game's story is boring.
