Hey Everyone. I hope the mods allow this discussion.
This marketing campaign has been extremely successful. I'm relatively new to viral marketing techniques, but I feel like one of the reasons this campaign, as well as one like Cloverfield, has been successful is because of the back story element. The games are driven by progress in the story. Even if you aren't able to get swag you can at least gain insight into a bigger storyline.
My question is this, and hopefully can be answered/discussed specifically by those who participate in the NIN virals...
How are viral campaigns successful without a story like we've had? Is it entirely swag based? And if so, what is the incentive for people to move out beyond the game?
