Virus.

hey guys i came across a virus the other day and cant seem to find and or get rid of it, when i start up my comp its a bit slower then my desktop icons and start bar disappear! if you guys could give me some help i would love it thanks!

When you restart your computer tab F6 during the boot and go into "safe mode with networking"

start>run>msconfig>startup tab

once you get there you should look for some suspicious programs that are being executed at startup.. if your not sure i highly recommend http://www.processlibrary.com/

just type the process in and look to see what it is.
if the process is a virus then uncheck it and restart the computer as prompted.
then if everything run smothly download Spybot search and destroy... that should delete the virus from the registry.

HOLD DOWN the LEFT SHIFT key, then boot into SAFE MODE
Then try to run your AV scan and the like there.

He's lucky it isn't a registry prob else Safe Mode wouldn't have done a thing.

it wont boot in safe mode.....it freezes at one screen.

If you cant even get into safe mode you may have to reformat...

Yeah, You need to get into safe mode, and trry to run AV...I suggest before you try getting into safemode, downloading ClamAV from this location
because it does not install....

Once you get into safemode, tryr to squash it with this.

Or just say the hell with it.
Get your data off the pc slowlly with a USB drive...

yea i back up my comp all the time onto a external hard drive.....so how would i go about reformatting my comp?

Put in your Windows disc before you start up, then select to load from the disc. It'll be pretty self-explanitory from there.

yeah i pretty much had the same problem. if for whatever reason your windows disc doesnt work, you'll probably have to end up going to a computer store and get your comp/laptop reformatted-then afterwards install some antivirus software. I have windows live onecare, and so far it works great.

I reccommend, that before you do it, you make a listing of the types of hardware on your machine.

Download the drivers for al your hardware onto another PC, to a USB flash drive or External Drive., ESPECIALLY the NIC drivers

Do you have a RESTORE CD or a valid Operating System CD?
