Voice acting opinions

Perfect.:word: Best acting out of all the turtle movies.

I wasn't fond of Mako as Splinter. He had his moments but I think overall he was miscast.

And although I love Sarah Michelle Gellar, she didn't work for me as April either. I just kept seeing her and not April.

The rest of them were either good or not bad. I really loved Ziyi Zhang as Karai though. Surprised me how much I liked her.

My opinions pretty much echo Darthkush. Although I didn't have as much of a problem with Gellar as I thought I would. Not that she does a bad job, just that her voice is so distinct (then again, so is Stewart's but c'mon, it's Patrick effin' Stewart).

Mako was a disappointment and I almost feel bad saying that since he died right after it was announced that he did the voice for Splinter. However, his line about watching his stories was delivered perfectly and I dug his lines in the final fight scene.

What impressed me was the Turtles themselves. They all sounded very similar to the voice actors from the second movie, save for Mikey (who sounded more like the original cartoon). But they were all new to the franchise. I'm also glad they kept Raph's accent. It's become so distinctive to his character since the original movies.

Everyone, everysingle person ive talked with who saw movie said they didnt like Splinter's voice

I personally cant blame them, Mako sucked as splinter, sry brutal honesty here

I was overall happy with them all. I went into it thinking I would hate Splinters voice but it didnt bother me too much. I guess the only one that sort of didn't allow me to forget who they were, was Max Winters. Everytime I heard him speak, I kept thinking of Professor X.

Im glad to see im not the only one who hated Splinters voice. If anyone has played the TMNT game his voice sounds a lot better and thats what I was hoping to hear but I was way off.

The first time, I didn't care for Splinter too much. My second viewing, his voice didn't jump out at me quite as much and it grew on me just a bit.

Other than that, I thought they were all pretty much spot on. A bit ironic, though, that this movie comes out about the same time I get to Gladiator in the Shi'ar level of Marvel: Ultimate Alliance. I had taken the X-Men to that level and lo and behold, Iceman has a dialogue with Gladiator. It was Leo's voice actor, though I only learned that after seeing IMDB. Didn't sound like Leo. ;)

I loved Mako as Uncle Iroh but his Splinter sounds as if he has a cold.

I loved the voice actin except splinter. I loved the movie though!!

Well, as far as Mako, he was a very cool guy that had no problem acting goofy behind the mike. They accurately gave Splinter a Japanese voice actor, so you cant' fault them too much for that.

yeah i'm guessing they all pretty much worked for dirt cheap. a 30 million dollar budget with all of that cg and those talents involved? that's impressive.

The one voice (other than Splinter) that took me a while to get used to was Leo's. For some reason, it just didn't sound like Leo's "classic" voice, whereas with the other turtles, they were easy to recognize and distinguish.

Not to say it was bad or anything becuase it wasn't...it just took some time to adjust. :yay:

The only ones that really bothered me were Evans as the now metrosexual Casey Jones, Ziyi as Karai, and Fishburne as the narrator.

Their casting was silly and pointless.

Everyone else was pretty solid.

i thought the voice acting was good for the most part. i could've cared less for Sarah Michelle Gellar and Zhang Ziyi. they were both pretty bland to me...

...i guess i'm the only one that actually LIKED Splinter. he didn't sound like a typical random old Japanese man. he sounded like an old Japanese man that i'd actually like to have as a father...

that's actually an interesting thing you say there. He didn't sound like a typical old Japanese man. Mako's voice has definite personality, a stern warmness -- but he doesn't sound like that cliched Japanese sensei old guy's voice we normally hear in our heads.

You're not alone. I think that's why I actually thought Mako made a very good Master Splinter, despite the fact that he does sometimes sounded a little drunk -- but then again, he was sick, wasn't he?

As for voice actors -- I only really counted the characters who had had voice actors in the previous films (that's only the turtles and splinter).

Technically, I didn't find the human performances in the previous films all that spectacular, so I didn't find much wrong with the weaker human performances in this one -- which I don't think were as weak as everyone is saying. Their parts were limited, their scripts were nothing special, so they worked with their characters, which were supportive though not all very developed. Their performances were fine.

I totally agree with you on Splinter. We're not alone dude.
I thought gellar was ok. I liked Casey more than i thought. Ziyi's english is a bit too "Broken /chinese sounding", but i could live with it.

exactly...i think the problem is that everyone has the perception that Splinter is supposed to sound like the typical old Japanese man like he does in the cartoon and past movies but like you said...Mako gave Splinter personality. it's too bad he's not with us anymore...i would've loved to have seen what he can do if a sequel is made (most likely).

when we were in the theater, as soon as Splinter spoke, my son started giggling, I turned to him and asked what made him laugh, he said Splinter sounded funny, and yeah, don't know much about this Mako person, but his voice did sort of stand out, he was good, but after hearing Splinter in the cartoon and the old movies, it threw me off to hearing him in this film...

Actually, I think that Ziyi's broken chinese english thing worked in her favor. I liked the sound of it for that character. Normally that would bother me but for Karai it worked. Now if she had played April...

Why would Karai have anything but broken English? The Shredder, herself and Splinter all grew up in Japan and basically had to learn English once they got to the states.

I just wish that they would have modelled Ziyi as an asian chick, I mean she looked more American than anything. So that made her voice stand out/not match her appearance.
