excerpt from site...
I'll start with the When just to establish what's going on for you. Future planet earth. Earth has been attacked by an alien race called the Drules, whom we never see. They use battle droids called RoBeasts that can regenerate themselves from metal debris, so it makes them almost impossible to kill with conventional weapons.

Who?

There are plenty of new characters in the script, but I'll center mainly on who I remember from the cartoon.

We know that there are two groups that have been scraped together; one is a militia group led by Dukane and another led by former soldier Keith Kogan, who is helped out by his friend, Lance MaClain. Recognize the names? In the cartoon, Dukane was the leader of the vehicle Voltron Force, Keith was Black Lion pilot and Lance was Red Lion Pilot.

Allura and Hunk are two travelers making their way down to Mexico to deliver five differently colored keys. I'm sure you know the colors. Paths cross and Keith and Lance take on the job of chauffeuring Allura and Hunk down to Mexico. Along the way, they pick up 11 year old Pidge.

Eventually, they make it down to Mexico way and we meet Sven Holgersson and Coran. In the cartoon, Sven was the first pilot of the Blue Lion and Coran was Allura's royal advisor. Needless to say, the characters in the script are different than the cartoon.

What?

Obviously, the What is Voltron. Do we see him? Read on.

So down in Mexico, Allura and company have been busy manufacturing five robots to take on the RoBeasts using a combination of ancient pyramid drawings and alien technology. But the keys Allura was carrying are needed to power them. If you're following along, I think you know the significance of the keys. While under attack, the robots are hastily finished up, but are far from battle ready and things go bad. Which takes us back to Manhattan, where the heroes try to make a final stand for humanity's sake!

We do see Voltron and his flaming sword battle it out in one final climactic battle scene. The battle takes place across the entire world.

Where?

The script is set in post-apocalyptic Manhattan and Mexico with various cities shown along the way.

Manhattan and Mexico (no particular city is named) are the two main back drops. Manhattan, Mexico and really, the entire world have been torn to shreds. The war between the RoBeasts and Mankind has left the earth decimated. A destroyed Manhattan will make for some great battle scenes. The battles are massive, with buildings and bridges torn apart and giant leaps to Paris and India thrown in to boot.

Voltron was awesome. :cmad:

That script sounds terrible. But I can see why they switched the setting to Earth. The general public will care more about Earth than some far off planet. But they should have kept the dynamics from the cartoon the same. Allura could still be the ruler of Earth, or a nation of Earth, or the UN or something.

And Keith and co. should be a team from the start, not a rag tag group of misfits.

EDIT: On the other hand, Star Wars succeeded in making us care about people from different planets. So there's really no excuse. Trying to ground Voltron in our reality is stupid. The property needs to be treated as a space fantasy.

It doesnt sound at all like Voltron, which is a good thing, cause Voltron f**king sucked..although I think this movie is unnessecary, we already have a live action Voltron, it's called Power Rangers.

Die. :csad:

And don’t worry folks, Voltron is in NO WAY CORNY or juvenile. Its edgy, entertaining and respectful of the fans and the source material.

this is bull****.

Interesting review. I don't like the description of the lion. I don't want to see some backyard lion bulls**t. I want to see a photorealistic robot lion in all its glory.

I dont either.
They should give the Lions the ZOIDS treatment.

this is bull****.

why? Voltron is just a PG version of GoLion! Justin Marks is trying to combine both and be faithful at the same time. It's like if someone did a PR movie and combined Zyuranger with MMPR.

How bout I make a Superman movie where he is 4'11", chinese with green tights. but with the correct "S" and say I remained true to the character, he's still from Krypton!

I don't think I could stomach a PR movie combined with Sentai.

Hmmm...

Things like Keith's team being together beforehand, that I can do without... part of the fun of an origin movie is getting everyone together.

Things like taking place on Earth, Now we've fallen short...

Lions that aren't cool looking, but cobbled together... not so much. Not so much at all. Unless of course, these lions have realy good paint jobs so that it's not immediately obvious that they are made from existing items... in THAT case, we might have something interesting.

That said, if the final, world-crossing battle is awesome enough... why not?

True, but it doesn't really make sense that these randoms would end up piloting the lions. They should at least meet at a military academy or something.

This thread needs some pics.

I don't think that LR's script review should be taken seriously. These guys write like 3rd graders and I for one have not forgotten all the broken promises regarding TDK script review. They have been promising that for a long time and have not delievered.

I sent them an email regarding the term Exclusive on their script review being that they did not post the script review first and their all around poor fact checking, and this is the response I got from them:
You should check your facts first....we had that **** up first and its a script review unlike a stupid story detailed crap. Plus IESB posted it right after i did and Robert Sanchez was with me in LA and I saw him post it cause he was in my room while i stayed in LA for Transformers.

So eat them apples. I dont have the time or day to check on other sites forums who copy and paste ours **** and post them on their forums because the site doesnt have the balls to link to script reviews they just like to steal the **** and post them on the forums.

I really don't give a crap what people think of Latino Review cause I've learned in this business there is alot of snakes you have to deal with. And you cant please everyone. Please i have a life with kids and dont have the time or day to be sitting on my ass and checking out forums.

Funny **** is I dont hear **** when we are right on casting news like all the TDK casting and Superman Returns casting, NO COMPLIMENTS there right, you dont like giving credit there right? you only want to look at the negative **** but thats cool cause when we post the TDK script followed by the Hulk 2 script and Trek script I'm going to see you guys copy and paste it and post on the forums.

Then again I dont depend on studio ad buys like AICN, MOVIEWEB, OR SHH. I get paid no matter what and I'm not a studio ****e.

It is absolutely ridculous that he tell me to check MY facts when I don't have a site to run. Sorry to post this like this, but LR is heading down the toilet. How can he say he's not a studio ****e when it looks like LR attends every media function there is. What a moron.

The movie is still in pre-production and the Voltron/PR comparisons have already started.

oh come on, Power Rangers was f**king voltron...all that giant robot s**t is the same thing, with different robots...

power rangers=voltron. They both have giant robot animals, fight aliens, and have colorerful costumes. People should just get over it. There both from Japan. Who cares there both campy as hell.

I already knew Power rangers was based on Super Sentai.

so then they are the same thing, you just proved our point.

I never said they weren't. I'm just saying that the PR = Voltron (& vice versa) comment is nonsense. The most accurate thing to say is that PR and Voltron are both based on Super Sentai.

And speaking of giant robots (megazords) do you know who had the first one? Click below to find out!
