9 dead in Texas biker brawl
Law enforcement veteran describes scene as the "most violent and gruesome" he's seen
The fight among rival biker gangs started in a restaurant, and spilled into the parking lot

(CNN)Gunfire erupted Sunday among rival biker gangs in Waco, Texas, leaving at least nine people dead, according to police.

Authorities had anticipated trouble and pre-positioned officers.

"There were at least three rival gang groups here this morning for whatever reason. As they were here, we had officers on scene. We expected issues," said Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton, a police spokesman. He later said there were at least five gangs.

The fight broke out at Twin Peaks restaurant and spilled into the parking lot. It quickly escalated from hands and feet, as weapons, to gunfire, Swanton said.

"In my nearly 35 years of law enforcement experience," he said, "this is the most violent and gruesome scene that I have dealt with."

Bikers shot at each other and at officers, who returned fire.

Swanton expressed anger at Twin Peaks, which he claims had been less than helpful in dealing with gangs in the past. He declined to identify the specific groups involved in Sunday's shooting.

"Are we frustrated? Sure. Because we feel like there may have been more that could have been done by a business to prevent this," he said.

Corporate management at Twin Peaks released a statement saying it was reviewing the circumstances of the shooting. The Waco restaurant is franchised.

"We are thankful no employees, guests or police were injured in this senseless violence outside the restaurant, and our sympathies are with the families of those killed," the statement said.

To escape the fight, some restaurant customers and employees took cover in the freezer, according to CNN affiliate KWTX. The station reported that more than 100 weapons were recovered, and Waco police said officers were continuing to arrest people arriving with weapons.

Swanton told reporters that eight people were dead on the scene and another was pronounced dead at an area hospital. A total of 18 people were taken to the hospital. It was not immediately clear whether that figure included the person who died. All those injured or dead are believed to be bikers.

No officers were hurt, Swanton said, praising their response.

"Their action has saved lives in keeping this from spilling into a very busy Sunday morning," the spokesman said. "Thank goodness the officers were here, and took the action that they needed to take to save numerous lives."

I saw this in on the news yesterday & was in a bit of shock. Bikers & perhaps rival gang members get rowdy & chaos ensues.

Not shedding a tear for any of these meth-head scumbags. It's a miracle no civilians or cops were killed.

*sees the words "Twin Peaks"*
*gets excited*
*reads the actual content of the story*
*loses all excitement*

:o

It is now being reported four of the dead are a result of police gunfire although they still have not determined who shot who or whether any of the dead were bystanders. Given the nature of the incident that probably is unlikely though.

If those bikers are coming to Texas to exact revenge on the cops or the other bikers, then they deserve the body-bags they'll end up in.

see this is why the human race is Doomed! instead of going to "Twin Peaks" restaurants and enjoying the view of delicious snowy mountain tops!( it is a restaurant to view mountains right!?) dummies went to shoot and kill each other!.. some people just dont understand you go there for the beer and chicken wings but stay for the VIEW! you dont go there to shoot rival biker gangs! geez whiz! come on!

One does not just walk into Mordor or a crappy place like "Hooters" or "Twin peaks" for food! JJJ! hehe:cwink:

exactamundo Krypton! Plus those chicks never get your damn order right...but who cares!!

Stupid biker gang shooting up the place!

I just don't get the appeal of "breasturants." We have this thing called the internet. If you're not a fan of that, we even have these things called strip clubs.

those restuarants are stupid! that food is crap and its over priced but the appeal is that "wholesome" girl next door" wearing orange tight shorts i had my boys who loved going there cause they think they have a chance with one of them which is stupid cause they have a better chance of getting shot by a rival biker gang than getting with one of them.... but i do like the oysters on the half shell.and its funto watch drunken slobs try to pick them up!but i agree just forgo that ^&* food and go to the strip club!

I bet this place had the crappiest food.

It ain't bad. There's one right in front of the movie theater the fiance' and I go to all the time. Burgers, beer, and booties makes for a nice pre-show ritual.

I heard they charged 170 bikers which has got to be some sort of record.

Which is also an outrageous abuse of the law by merely being present at a murder, you are now implicated as an accessory.

It was about 200 I believe but either way, yeah that's a pretty big arrest in a few days.

But why the hell are those bikers just sitting there like they're in time out? Why aren't they in cuffs?

Yeah, like their presence there was innocent. It apparently was like the Wild West with everyone strapped and shooting. They knew what was about to go down.

Obviously you have a problem with bikers but it does not mean they were all guilty of committing murder or even knowledgeable of an intent to kill.

Yes, I do have a problem with meth-addled, violent, gun-totin' bikers who terrorize locals. I know, I'm so weird like that.

I trust the police who were on the scene and witnessed everything go down, have a slightly better handle on the situation than you do.

I've met many, many bikers who fail to live up to your stereotype which is no better than saying something about any demographic being the same. And given the way the police have handled matters in the past, and no doubt many have the same attitude of yours, no I really would not trust them to know better than to just assume a lot of stereotypes to be true. You don't know any better than I do what went down there. Hell, the cops who were there can't even clarify it yet since they don't know who killed who.

This is not a demographic. Stop talking like they're an oppressed minority, because that's insulting to real oppressed minorities. Do you know anything about the gang involved, the "Banditos" and their violent history? They're murderers, drug dealers and thugs that hate the Hell's Angels because they think they're too "soft" and "corporate." Sorry if I don't have a lot of sympathy for a bunch of druggie idiots shooting at each other and shooting at cops in the parking lot of a "breasturant." How bigoted of me...

Demographics aren't only for minorities of skin color and you are the one who has stated anyone in a biker gang, which can be quite the loose definition, is automatically a criminal.

You are taking one group, the Banditos, and applying their reputation generically. That and even criminals have rights. Unless you don't mind the cops just arresting people in sight for being too "criminal" looking.
