Shadowcat possesses the ability to "phase" or literally pass through solid matter by passing her atoms through the spaces between the atoms of the object through which she is moving. Utilizing her phasing ability, she can also walk on air. While phasing, she is intangible and thus invulnerable to physical attacks and telepaths have a hard time reaching her mind in phased form. However the density of adamantium proves deleterious to her phasing, causing her to be severely disoriented if she tries to pass through adamantium or adamantium passes through her. Her phasing powers also disrupt any electronic equipment she passes through. For some time after she discovered her powers, she was only able to phase herself and her clothes along with her. However, she quickly learned to phase other people and objects with her.

I think people are getting a little too intense about some of the things Ellen has said. She often goes on and on about how amazing she thinks Kitty is and just because she mentions that shooting a small film afterwards was nice, does not mean that she is bashing X men.

You don't think it'd be more challenging to play a lead in a low-budget movie with a small cast than a small role in a huge-budget movie with a huge cast? Of course it would be. And no, in this film, Kitty probably wasn't a psychological challenge. She is but one part of a huge film. Saying that other roles are more challenging isn't an insult, it's just the truth.
